I heard the reason #3 leaned out all the time was on the turbo engines, since that is the corner the turbo sits behind. We run perrin fuel rails on a couple of our WRXs and we have never had a problem with it, you dont really get more power but it gives you piece of mind you won't detonate the engine when running high boost by leaning out that cylinder.

On the EJ22T we see a lot more failures in #4 then we do in #3. #4 is the one that brought down my oem EJ22T. Something about less coolant flow on #4 causing them to run hot.

Wouldn't running lean cause a temp increase? Or is that just when you're running FI? Or am I thinking about exhaust temps and not cylinder temps?

Yeah, running lean does create heat and detonation. The word was that #3 was the one to watch for a long time but we've actual seen far more #4 failures do to the reduced coolant flow in that portion of the head. This is on the EJ22T though, I'm not sure what guys are seeing on the EJ205 and EJ207.

I KNOW that #3 is the problem on the 205s, my buddies 05 is in the shop getting a new bottom end as we speak  I've heard the EJ22t is different though.

yeah, that's where the EJ22E goes lean too, the #4 cyl (same as the EJ22t)

I first lost just #4 on my NA but boosted motor. The second time I lost both #4 and #2.

w00t, Douglas Vincent is in da house!

Yes, I guess it varies from the 2.2 to the 2.5.

#4 doesn't go lean. It gets fuel first. I think Matt is right, and that it's a coolant issue.
