View Full Version : Impreza Hood on a Legacy?

Anyone ever try and fit an Impreza hood onto a Legacy? I'm sure simple measuring would tell if I had one around here I could measure. I especially like the hoods on the 98 RS's with the extra 2 vents towards the sides of the hood. I think it would look awesome on a Legacy and I need to find a new hood anyways.

I believe they're slightly narrower. The Impreza is generally slightly narrower.
Probably nothing a decent fabricator couldn't work around though.

It'd be easier to install the RS/WRX vents in the GT hood though.

Explain please... :)

The vents are just plastic peices that mount into holes in the hood, and you'd just fit the parts.

All it would take is ensuring the vent hole is placed on a flat part of the hood, not one with a vertical plane change.

You'd have to be pretty certain on the hole placement though. :D

fender lines are different, headlights are different, grille is different...it'd be a fab job for sure.

I agree with Huffer, go with vents & scoop instead.

Actually, the vents for the USDM RS hood don't mount in a flat part of the hood, there is a style line there.

That's a nice close up AussieDan! I'll have to keep my eyes open for them. Thanks

Yup, they're the same as the V5/6 GC WRX. The earlier WRX's had flat vents.
IIRC.

*shrug*

Nothing like pulling up at some lights and seeing heatwaves. :)

Would they work on a LegGT sedan? (BD)

Nice find! I like the larger (functional) scoops!

I'll bet shipping would be a lot to Canada though.

A guy in PA named David Carter made a fiberglass hood with RS-style scoop and vents. It only fits '90-'91 Legacies. Hoods are really particular to a given look, they aren't interchangable, so it'd be a real custom job. For example, hoods from a 91 Legacy don't even fit on 92 Legacies even though they are of the same generation. All it took was a minor facelift, not even a real generation change, to make the hoods incompatible.

If anyone wants one, Dave has a few more for sale over on bbs.legacycentral.org

Love it or hate it, it certainly increases airflow to an intercooler over the stock Legacy scoops:

Well, just out of interest, I measured up a 01 RS hood tonight:

01 RS: 51" wide (approx)
98 GT: 53" wide (approx)

The other interesting thing to note, is that the GT hood has the style lines dipping into the center of the hood - whereas the RS has a raised center piece.

But I am pretty sure that the RS vents would fit nicely, providing the holes are cut in the right place/dimensions. The key thing to remember is that the vents slot into the hole from the underside, so the hoodskin is typically ABOVE the vent - unless 22B style vents are used.

They do work on the BD, I bought one from that guy. Shipping ran around $100 if I remember correctly, but on a side note the scoop is the same size as the gt or forester scoop. well at least mine doesnt look any bigger, but it does have the intercooler shroud on it so thats nice.. I might put a larger scoop in my stock hood and see how that looks also. I kinda like the obnoxious huge STi scoop... Reminds you there is something under it. lol
