There is a Subaru with some major anti-lag in the distance! That's right, it's rally season once again! This year's Waste Management Susqeuhannock Trial Performance Rally presented by Citizen and Northern Bank, better known as STPR is back for another year in the tight logging roads of Wellsboro and Tioga County, PA! Although there are no details as of yet regarding the stages and how and where they are running, we do have a set Rally weekend of May 31-June 1 of 2013. June 2nd is usually the wrap up day when everyone wakes up and makes that trip home with nothing more than the memories, photos, videos, autographs, merchandise, and of course, rally dirt. But this year a very nice SL-i member by the name of ryu_haneda has given the idea of having a meet there! After speaking with some people that regularly go up and some of the rally teams, I have made it a goal to make this happen! Not only will we be having a good time talking to fellow rally enthusiasts and hopefully rally teams, and having some good food, but we will also be giving back to the community by donating the leftover food and utensils to the local Wellsboro Food Pantry. Also if you want, you can bring a non-perishable food item to give to the food pantry or to me for the donation to show your appreciation.
What Is Rally?
Rally is a sport where you race on all surfaces: snow, ice, dirt, mud, gravel, and tarmac. The goal that every driver has is to "go fast and have fun". This results in some very entertaining racing. Power sliding around turns and being so close to the action that you are truly a part of what makes the sport! It is not for the light hearted! To watch, you need to make it to the stages. That requires driving on roads very similar to the rally course! Once there you need to high tail it to a good spot because you are probably pushing time, for these cars are quick! Just search "Rally America" for more information.
What Do I Do In Preparation For the Rally?
Well that is up to you. I am 4hrs from Wellsboro, this year I will be going up Thursday to set up camp and relax with some friends. Then be up early for Friday to see the rally cars and drivers/co-drivers at the town center. Later that day they have a Super Special Stage which is much like a rallycross, where you sit on a hill and watch the cars race on a tight track, never missing a beat because you see it all! Saturday comes quick, I make one more trip to the town center to grab food and stop at any vendors I missed the day before, then off to the rally stages! Trying to hit as many stages as possible before heading back to the second Super Special Stage. After that day is up, it's over, after all of that it just ends and everyone leaves Sunday. Or do they? With this meet it will make a nice transition before the ride home.
How Much Does It Cost?
The rally itself is free. There is a small fee for each Super Special Stage though, where you can grab some food. Other than those two stages all you have to have money for is food, gas, and a place to rest your head. Plus any merchandise that you may want to buy.
How Do I Know Where The Stages Are?
There is a booklet that you can pick up at the town center or at the Super Special Stages. They also have it uploaded on stpr.org, but I warn you now, they post it just a few days ahead, so patience are greatly needed as your big weekend fast approaches. In this booklet you will see the teams running and see the stages as well. All you need to know is in there. But it is up to you to plan which stages you will get to.
