The Outback was sold 12/14/12 to a friend who gave up on her 2000 Legacy after 290,000 miles. It had 224,000 on the clock and was still running well.

Here's the last good pic I took of it, last year after a snowstorm:

2011 Update:

Car keeps puttering on, 219,000 miles now, and a lot of rust development, but I've done some functional upgrades, like putting stock foglights back on and adding Hella 500FFs. Aside from that it's mostly been maintaining it, and a goal of 300,000 miles!

I repainted the stockers with duplicolor, they look so much better now.

JDM stuff:
Projector Headlights
Sidemarkers
Interior trim pieces

Engine/Drivetrain:
98GT Intake
Stromung Hi-flow cat
Custom 2" catback

Suspension:
IPD adjustable swaybar with endlinks & bushings

It's nothing much, just my baby

oooo, a big ol' farm!! do you have a large barn that you can pull the car into and perform modifications out of the elements?

(I'm not eager to get my own garage/barn or anything like that... )

Nice wagon. Agree with Mas on the engine bath, but other than that, she looks pristine! Like those proj fogs. Got a set myself, just haven't converted my 98 to them yet. I think they'd look sharp with BG projector headlamps.

yeah....the barn is dirty, smelly, and not ours. We just live at the house. At 250 dollars a month rent, who could refuse? What would you reccommend for washing the engine out? I've already done some cleaning, the strut towers aren't brown anymore 8) Can I just hose it down?

1. Open hood
2. turn garden hose on full blast
3. aim sprayer at engine
4. Fire away.

I've done it before and will do it again!

Also did it on my old Jeep Cherokee as well. IF the cars are built well, it shouldn't harm the engine.

what is that underneath your eclipse? looks like some weird tape deck or something.

Wiscon_Mark
06-22-2005, 09:40 AM
Its my sub volume control basically....
Its a Coustic Tape Deck, but I don't use it for anything more than a preamp.

SubaruGenki
06-23-2005, 12:13 AM
how'd you wire that? I think you should cut a piece of something so just the knobs show...

Wiscon_Mark
06-23-2005, 08:40 AM
My Eclipse Deck only has RCA preamp outputs, but the coustic one has 1 set of inputs and one set of outputs, so i just put it on the 'CD' setting on the deck and play the signal through to the sub.
As for the covering up....the deck doesn't really fit into a single DIN slot, so the faceplate doesn't work...I'd have to fabricate something and I don't really feel its terribly necessary. It's probably going soon anyways, because I'm going to upgrade my system.

WHOA ON THE ENGINE WASHING!!!

This will cause some funkiness with your electronics, I must warn you. If you do this, plan some time to have your engine dry out, otherwise, you can expect your car to not operate as well as it should.

Oh, and don't forget to disconnect and remove the battery, mmkay?

The only thing you want to cover is the distributor cap (for cars that have them) and open intakes. I only put a plastic bag over my intake and spray away. I been doing this for the past 5 years on my Legacy and no problems. I've done it on all my other cars and friends cars that I had cleaned. I never heard about taking out the battery lol. Ask Ryan when he seen my car how clean my engine bay was (if he remembers). If you want some tips to clean your engine PM me and you will be able to eat off your engine.

Makes me miss the 1995 Legacy even more. :(

I can't find pics of it on it's deathbed anymore. =\ Luckily, Insurance sold it to someone who either parted it and sold it or repaired it. :) Just wanted the engine and tranny to find good homes. ^_^

Hey Mark - your duct tape can be replaced by a $5 item found in the engine bay of most 2.5RS cars... the plastic fender hole cover.

Wiscon_Mark
12-12-2005, 08:04 AM
duct tape ain't even there anymore...

I found a white oil container and cut it to fit in the hole. Most people would never notice it. Try finding a container with a similar colour to your car and then put two slits at the top and bottom (or each side) to hold it in.

I would like to, but it's not on my list of priorities. This summer, for sure. The car is going to change BIG this summer :D

I have seen that a few times after a storm where everything has a strange "glow" to it...

Everything seemed quite bright (but yellow in tone) yet my headlights were quite clearly seen on everything! It was an odd occurence.

Mark, you need to at least grind the rust down and patch the metal before you lose too much of it. It's easier to paint metal than it is to fill and sand, fill and sand, fill and sand.

Even if you end up with a non-matching paint color, it'll at least protect the repaired area long enough for you to have it done right. It'll look bad, but it won't look as bad as the rust.

Wiscon_Mark
05-25-2006, 08:03 AM
Yeah, I know, it frustrates the hell outta me. I'm terrible at sanding/painting/priming, etc and I don't even know where to start for rust that bad.

I'm almost thinking of finding a junker car and having a body shop weld on new fenders. It might be easier and more foolproof.

Remove the tailight, and use a paint stripper wheel on a drill. Then use sand paper/sanding block.

Just watch the muscle car guys on Overhaulin' or Power Block.

Get in there!

what happened to them? did you paint your L like an outback? sorry if this is old news but we both know this isnt an outback haha. at least, it doesnt seem like the roof is raised :-?

i think that bumper looks fine with projector fogs. and a gt/outback hood :)

Wiscon_Mark
05-21-2007, 12:52 PM
Dude, it's a 95, they didn't come with the raised roof or the special bumper, it was a Legacy L with a bunch of extra features. Actually, it was a great deal new, as it was barely more expensive than the L, and came with power everything, cruise, A/C, roof rack, AWD, trailer hitch, etc etc

http://www.cars101.com/subaru_legacy_ar ... cy/outback (http://www.cars101.com/subaru_legacy_archive95_97.html#1995%20legacy/outback)

I ditched the fogs because I thought I was getting a newer outback bumper, and I wouldn't need them anymore. PWT has them now.

yikes i sense some hostility there. i am misinformed and really i was just lookin for an explanation. sorry if it seemed like i was bein a prick.

now i really think you should stick with this style since its rare and oem. but to each their own...

Wiscon_Mark
05-21-2007, 01:19 PM
Yeah, but I don't like the style

Plus I can put hellas on the Outback bumper - function over form

No hard feelings, but you did set me on edge a little for a second. Sometimes I overreact...

i agree. i forget sometimes that i have little to none of the elements to deal with here in Socal. i'll keep an eye out for bumpers at the el yunkey yards...

Those updated shots look great Mark! Nice job on the photography. Your OB looks nice. What are your thoughts on the IPD/RalliTek swaybars?

In my hometown there is an Outback identical to yours (being a '95), its even the same color. The only difference I can spot is it has the optional rear roof spoiler. I always have my digital camera in my car so next time I see it I'll snap a picture for you.

Wiscon_Mark
05-23-2007, 09:50 AM
Interesting. I wasn't even aware that the spoiler was an option in 95 (it certainly wasn't standard, of course it may have been added later too) on the Outback.

I definitely like the IPD swaybar, however, I haven't really dared turning it up because of the tires I have (suckage in the handling department). Still, 18mm makes a huge difference. I have an off ramp that I test it on, with the stock sways, I could take it at 50mph before slight tire squeal (what I figure is the end of being safe through the turn) and now I can almost do it at 60mph! Once I get better tires, and replace the tired out struts and springs, rear tire contact shouldn't be a problem, and the car should be even tighter

almost as hot as your girlfriend, ;) ...kidding, i've come to terms w/ the car, and I love her too! Hell, it's a great experience helpin' with speaker installation, cleaning, ect. I totally respect the dedication and effort you put into your car, no wonder it's still going.

Very nice... where did you get the JDM lights? I really want projectors and I have been debating the tails... I am starting to come around on the tails because the white might actually go well with the whiteness of the car.

Wiscon_Mark
07-05-2007, 11:23 AM
For lighter colors, the smoked tails tend to look better (ie: Huffer's BK wagon) and for darker, the non-smoked white tails look better. At least I think so.

I got the projectors from Perdue, a member on this board. He got them from JHOT Imports (eBay motors store) I believe.
