As a fellow wrb wrx owner I congradulate you on some nice mods. Ya gotta get some engine management for that turboback though....it will make your car run much smoother, less rich, and give you an extra 20-30 hp on top of what the turboback gave you (but you probably already know this.) I think that your car would be perfect with painted sideskirts and different wheels - maybe trade those 18's for some darker colored 17's??? But great car and congrats nonetheless!!!!! BTW I still want my legacy to look like your old wagon when its all done - Dan

strat81
02-09-2007, 09:25 PM
i'm working on the engine management... it's a pita to try and mod two cars at the same time. (as i'm sure you know)

i'm torn on the sideskirts (i plan on using the car on dirt for rally x, time/distance rallies, and just playing on back roads) and i'm afraid they'd get chipped up. as for the 18's, they are staying on my cavalier this year (possibly powdercoated a different color) and i'll rock the stockers on the wrx.

Danbob
02-10-2007, 07:28 PM
Stockers and painted sideskirts look hot. You should get the painted sideskirts. The flaps will keep them from getting chipped up. I have STi sideskirts on mine because that's all I could find as far as factory painted sideskirts for cheap, but I have learned to love them tons because they are a bit sleeker than the plain wrx ones. They also don't hang down as much. Got them 2 years ago from some dude for like 150 bucks. Sideskirts are also really easy to change so I mean you could keep your stock ones and use them for rallies and then switch them to painted for street.

What's your setup on you cavi? I used to have a 2001 modded Saturn Coupe so I am familiar with domestics too.

this coming winter i'm looking to build a forged engine and boost it.

looking at doing lower comp pistons, rods, cometic head gasket, stage II p&p head, cams, and probably a t3/to4e... i'm hoping to hit 350 whp

Clean Cavi, but why not throw that money into the WRX?

Wiscon_Mark

Clean Cavi, but why not throw that money into the WRX?

The Cavi was and is his first priority - the WRX was recently attained.

strat81
02-13-2007, 12:00 AM
cuz the car is ready for boost.

the wrx is my daily. i'd like to keep it reliable... i don't see the 5spd holding up very long if i build up the wrx... i'm only looking at 3 grand or so to make the power i'm lookin for in the cavalier... and it won't mean replacing a tranny

Huffer
02-13-2007, 12:20 AM
Meh, you could easily wick out 320hp on the WRX with the right turbo, injectors, and management, and have it totally reliable.

I have proof if you don't believe me. ;)

Why doesn't the cav' have a hidden aerial already? Makes it look like an RC car... :)

strat81
02-13-2007, 12:49 PM
i've ridden in a 321whp wrx... hell i drove it before he got it tuned. the owner also can't launch the car hard due to the tranny...

thanks but no thanks, cavi gets the boost.

Seen it up close, I can say that's one sick Cavi.

at least get an ECU reflash or UTEC... itll make the car really come alive. i would also ditch the HKS downpipe in favor of a bellmouth design.

strat81
02-26-2007, 07:05 PM
unless my buddy changes his plans (which is possible cuz he seems to alot), we putting his bugeye back to stock this weekend (the 321 hp monster i referred to in my other post) and he's selling that in favor of the wrecked 04 he picked up a little while ago.

i'm probably getting ahold of his morettes as well as his utec. as for ditching the hks downpipe, from what i've read, the bellmouth doesn't yield much gains over the style up pipe i have unless you are flowing alot more air than i currently am. if i was gonna change down pipes, i'd probably pick up a divorced dp instead of just the bell mouth. at this point, i'm looking for a fun daily driver and i've got one. i'll be doing things here and there but as it sits, it's a pretty fun car already.

**update** he didn't get the money he was gonna out of his 02 in stock form so he's keeping it... i should be acquiring his swifts/agx's though as he's shootin for a set of jic's

thought i'd post a little update on the wrx...

the kybs/swifts are gone in favor of the JIC FLTA2's that my buddy had on his newer wrx. (running in scca autox's, he'd be bumped into a higher class due to the coilovers). Also have a set of Hella Blackmagic's that will be going on the car as soon as i pick up a rally innovations skid guard.

still no engine management yet but the car runs consistent 14.2's at the track (not launching real hard).

also picked up a factory boost gauge. the rota's are gone and i'll be looking to pick up a set of wheels here soon. (car is currently sitting on the 18's from my cavalier)

next will be winter wheels and studded snow tires for winter series time/distance rally's that i hope to do this year.

nice wrb bugeye - if I were you I would grab a $100 cable and put at the very least an open source reflash on it. It will make all the difference. For what its worth I could pull consistent 13.6-13.8 with a 1.8 60' when I was "stage II" mods (utec, invidia bellmouth, vishnu uppipe, tanabe catback). EM is worth it and open source is dirt cheap and effective. If I hadn't gotten really good at tuning my UTEC I would sell it and go open source. I already have the cable lol.

sounds like the car is coming along good spence. I'll need to pick up those 16's from you soon. Although my car is motorless right now, so i'll have to let you know once i get that straightend out.

strat81

sharky... i haven't heard about the cable/reflash (i haven't had much chance to surf nasioc as i currently don't have internet service at my house) can you post a link or some more info on this??
