Hi guys, I've no longer own this vehicle. I've sold this vehicle to mycargoesvroom on here. It's been fun but I think it's time for something different. Hate to see it go, but I know it's in good hands

Note: All the pictures are linked over to another album I created on Photobucket. So all the picture links are dead. If you like, just head over to my photobucket album are see the pictures there. It's a hassle trying to copy and paste all the pictures over

Nice axle-back - the hangers will need to be modified though, are you doing it or a shop?

I had help by a friend with the head gasket  ..there's no way I can do a job like that in 2 days

I got the muffler installed today. You're right Huffer, the hangers were too far back and wouldn't fit in the mounts. I got the shop to cut off the hangers and put new ones that fit.

The sound is very disappointing, very loud and obnoxious. Gets louder in high speeds and buzzing, honing noise comes out
I need to find a silencer or get the stock one put back on, its way too loud.

I'll get pics later, It does look nice tho

rip offs are good, they are cheaper.

What brand coilovers? Your car is slamed in the front.

I got them off awd_terror ..im not 100% sure, but i think he told me it was Tein basics..im not sure. it does have Tein tophats on it. it was red until i painted them green

and oh no, its not even close to slam...i raised it up about 2-3'' ..if it was slam, the front would rub like hell. It sure looks nice tho, i think I'll keep this set up, front lower, rear up for awhile.

would that hurt my awd at all? seem sketchy..

Wiscon_Mark
04-30-2007, 09:24 PM
Why exactly do you have it at different heights?

It won't hurt your AWD system, no.

Veeeery nice gt. You just reminded me why color-matched gt bumpers and side skirts look cool. I'll probably re-do the paint job on mine this spring (they're really kablammed up).

Again, great looking ride. Be careful... I might just do a write-up on your car soon...

that looks wicked good on your car! Props! Did you just trim the ebay lip down and re-drill holes? Or what? Looks awesome!

Btw.. how do you like your coil overs? We have super bumpy roads around here.. think they would be decent on them, or are they too stiff?

2.5GT
03-28-2008, 04:29 PM
yeah i did some work to make the lip fit..overall its ok, when i get a chance..i'll get another better one put on.

d1giPhux
06-23-2008, 07:40 PM
Looks awesome man! How did you paint the corners of your lights like that? Looks cool man! Also, how hard was it to get the cutoff on those HID's right? Nice panoramic shots btw.. what camera you using?

Also.. like your gauges.. im pretty pissed.. mine came fucked up, never got sent another set like promised, and never got my money back. Basically got jacked.. not too happy bout it.. cause I really wanted some diff colored gauges.

2.5GT
06-23-2008, 07:50 PM
Really, I didn't do a thing with the headlights. I just installed the HIDs and that was it. The projectors were already leveled.

And the panoramic shot was from one of our meets, I didn't take that pic btw, it was off another local member
I own a canon rebel xti, pretty nice camera. expensive...but really nice.

and really, if you look at the pic of the gauges..they're all fuck up. scatches from hell dude..i dunno why, and my new sets were the wrong ones..I try getting new ones but i guess it was "discontinued" due to the guy who doesn't have the machine at his work to make them...

d1giPhux
06-23-2008, 08:02 PM
^ yeah so i heard.. aka.. took the money and ran. no offense to him, but he told me i could least get my $ back since mine were all fucked up.. and i never heard back from him. aka highway robbery. LOL. Do yours leak through and stuff? Least they look nice in the pics.. maybe I will have to do the old means of modding the gauges.. sand those sucka's down and use LED's. haha.

How much you get the HID's for too btw? and also, how you put them in.. they just fit right into the stock holes right? any problems with overheating?

also.. bout the corners of your lights.. guess its just the pice.. cause my lights look like they have a 'rim' around the amber.. but i guess the way yours is angled.. on the lights are on.. makes it look like there is no 'edge'.

2.5GT
06-23-2008, 08:35 PM
yeah..its all fuck up, light bleeds thru..scratches from hell...and worst part, I dunno where it came from. It all the sudden just showed up..Im pretty sure its the the needles hitting the gauges.

i went with LEDs and really wasn't that bright. I got the wide angle LEDs too, and some spots it's bright, some areas on the gauges there's no light. So i ended up using new stock bulbs instead. It sucks for you, that you didn't get yours..

and my corners are JDM corner piece..I got it from Andivic. It makes the car looks kinda like Hondaish..

The HIDs weren't hard to install. I just had some troubles with the ground. Basically plug and play..I got it from a local here for $50... can't complain

d1giPhux
06-23-2008, 08:51 PM
damn $50.. thats cheap as hell.. i should do that to mine.. make them super bright.. i was just all worried about the cutoff and shit and blinding people / getting tickets.

2.5GT
06-23-2008, 09:00 PM
Cut offs are ok..and the lightning isn't any worse than the high class lexus or mercedes. Overall a good setup for me..I have a hard time seeing/driving at night..

d1giPhux
06-23-2008, 10:38 PM
What brand HID kit is it / where did you get it? Sounds hella cheap.. i might have to do that myself!

2.5GT
06-23-2008, 11:56 PM
Kit is called Xtec, I got it from a local member.

dplacencia
06-23-2008, 11:57 PM
35 watt or 55 watt kit?

2.5GT
06-24-2008, 12:25 AM
i believe its 35watt...might have to check again.

d1giPhux
06-24-2008, 07:39 AM
hmm, so thats not the actual price of them new then! =/

i wonder if these ones are any good? :

http://tinyurl.com/4snyjh

I might have to just get them and try it out. Wonder how risky it is with burning out stuff like the harness or the headlights themselves.. etc. because of the heat?

Either way.. looks way brighter than projectors with just the stock bulbs!

What is the advantage of the Oil catch can ?

Supposed to clean up air that would normally pass back through the throttle body, thereby keeping the intake/engine cleaner thus making better power.

I did one on my Accord and it used to catch a shit load of crap from going into my intake. After that it was as clean as a whistle, and I never had to clean my TB for the rest of the time I owned it. I don't know how bad the Subarus system is but maybe 2.5GT will show us the build up every so often?

You can see where my tape sits. I took the bumper off the car and measure where to cut/trim it. I took me awhile to get everything in order...but overall not that bad.

I bought it off ebay member called baysonr ..I believe it was about $125. If you're a DIY person..i'd say go for it.

Why not plastic weld? Would look alot cleaner than black tape. IMHO

Did you do both the inside and out? If so, Just reinforce the inside with a strip of fiberglass or build up some extra plastic over it.

2.5GT

I did both sides with the plastic bond, guerilla tape over the back side and a piece of wood for support. and does fiberglass work on plastic? i haven't heard or try it...

I wasn't talking about plastic bond (glue), I meant weld. Like with the plastic repair/ soldering kit. We use them on bike plastics. I repaired my plastics this way. I welded them inside, then the exterior, then build up a sandable surface over the exterior. I used a bit of a fiberglass mix on the inside for stability and support. Here's an after shot:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/07/l_a4ff190568dc90b15c98c3fc70abdf00-1.jpg

And as far as fiberglass, I meant just the cloth portion. Contact your local tool dealer for the kit, or go to you nearest bike repair shop. They should be able to help you out.

New struts and springs!

Just recently got off the OmniPower coilovers and onto KYB struts/H&R springs...and what a difference! The ride is so smooth compare to stock struts and handles somewhat great. It can't compare to how my coilovers handle but sure made a difference in ride quality.

Just some info in case anyone needs it.

KYB GR-2 struts:
Driver's front (LF) - 334112
Passenger front (RF) - 334111
Driver's rear (LR) - 334116
Passenger rear (RR) - 334115

H&R Sport springs:
29868
Front - 1.25"
Rear - 1.0"

Just to make note,
The brake line bracket needs to be cut in order to accompany the brake line. Not the whole bracket, just a slit opening to get the brake line in. Or, do it the hard way and take the whole brake line out. I cut the bracket just a tad, install the brake line in place, and put the retaining clip back into the bracket.

When installing the rear suspension. The strut itself will rub onto the inner body of the car. Don't worry, once the car is lowered onto the ground, the struts will push out.

And, the rear springs will not sit on the strut with the lettering upright. I had to flip the springs upside down, giving the bigger part of the spring sitting on the bottom of the strut collar and the smaller size on top where the top hats sits.

Also, installing the Driver's rear (LR) and Passenger front (RF) was a pain in the ass, but with enough prying here and there, eventually the strut will line up with the knuckles.

Other than that, the rest of the installation was pretty straight forward.

I'm not 100% satisfied with the ride height. It sits too high in my opinion and would love it if the front would just sit a tad lower. I did use Paranoid Fabrications butt sag spacers. I used the 1/4" and there was just enough thread left to tighten the bolts on the top hats down. If you were to go 1/2" spacers, you will need to get longer studs.

Wow, sometimes you guys are so literal! It depends on how much he drives. If he drives 300miles in a day I'd get a RE-alignment done every 4months.

If you drive 6miles a day then an alignment every 12 months is probably more appropriate.

The other is the same mid pipe, and that goes through a Magnaflow muffler 14215. As you might expect, it's louder than the SPT and more rumbly. Again, the mid pipe were $70 and the muffler were $93.

This passed Saturday, I decided to bite the bullet and wrap my header.

I used DEI exhaust wrap 2X50 and some steel clamps.

I soak the wrap in water and then wrap the header itself. It seals much tighter as the water's evaporated. It was a pain to wrap the header, due to it being wet and not gripping on the header as well as if it was dry. It took about atleast 5 minutes for the exhaust heat to dry the wrap and around 20 minutes for the smell and smoke to go away. And this was with the engine sitting at idle.

The "sewing machine" or "leaking" sound was 100% completely gone with the wrap installed. I was so surprise that i didn't hear a hint of the "leaking" sound.

And as you can see, i had the water hose and fire extinguisher in hand...just in case it catches on fire

And i tried to record my exhaust sound with a small Kodak Easyshare camera/recorder..didn't record any sound at all. Surprisingly, it recorded a small air plane that flew by, up several hundred feet away from the camera...but doesn't pick anything up from a 2 feet distance away from my muffler??

Yeah, I bought a can of DEI high temp silicone spray. I just wanted to wait a bit for the wrap to "break" in, and then I'll paint it.

It's amazing how close the wrap is to the oil filter now. I say less than 1/2" or so. Changing oil is going to be a pain from now on

If you can get one of those strap wrenches for oil filters, it should be helpful. Also, I just wrapped a plastic bag around that part of the header to keep any oil splatter off the wrap when I did oil changes.

I bought those stainless steel ties and some clamps too. And I guess I will have to bag them during oil changes.

I have some left over aluminum sheet metal, so when i have the time....I'll fab up a "filter cup" shield around the filter. Just incase the oil does spill everywhere.

Update on the Subaru

Recently I've received my Trust/Greddy front lip, so today I decided to install it.

First of all, the lip isn't meant to be fitted on a USDM bumpers, It's meant for the JDM bumpers. So I had to trim a few inches off the lip in order to make it sit flush with the bumper. The only trimming i did was at the slots on each side of the lip. It was coming to contact with the bumper. Also, the lip was too short for the ends to wrap over the bumper. So I had to heat gun the lip flexible enough, and brutally force the lip to wrap around the bumper, at the ends.

It wasn't that much to it to make the lip fitted on the USDM bumper. I'm quite surprise it sat somewhat flush with the bumper. And best of all, I don't have to shell out more money to get a JDM bumper

The package came with 2 10mm bolts and 2 small screws. The 10mm bolts is for the front tags, the 2 screws is what holds the lip to the bumper. I didn't use the screws, they are way too small and skinny to hold down that lip. So i used 2 10mm bolts and each side to hold the lip to the bumper. It seems pretty solid from there.

I will order paint sometimes soon and paint the lip with it being on the bumper. I took me awhile to get it on, it wasn't hard but did have to fight it a bit to get it on. So it stays on and awaits paint!

Driver side had a wee bit of a problem lapping over the bumper.

There's a small gap there somewhere.

Passenger side looks good

2 10mm bolts

Here's where the slotted holes I trimmed. Trimmed about 1" or so to where it's not contacting much with the bumper.

And for those who wanted to know where I've bought the lip from. I've order the lip from Connecticut Import Performance.

http://www.cipmotorsports.com/
The part number for the item is Trust/Greddy GRACER front lip #17060012

The total price was $330 shipped. The package came in the Trust box and an envelope with instructions in Japanese, and a baggie with 4 screws. Also, there was absolutely no insulation of the lip whatsoever. It was just a big box with a lip in it. They shipped it like that, so inspect your item before you sign anything from the delivery person. I was quite surprise it didn't break in halves on the way here (Cali to VA)

What's in here?

Envelope with instructions

You don't have to know Japanese to know how to install a lip

Looking awesome man!

Why did you wrap the header? What is the benefit? Sound dampening? Heat issues?

If you want to make changing your oil a little less of a hassle.. you could always get one of those quick release oil change bolts.

2.5GT

Those are aftermarket Borla knockoffs. The materials that the header is made of is very thin. So the "leaking sewing machine sound" I'm hearing is the valvetrain chattering right through the thin walled header.

The benefits?
I got rid of the annoying sound every time i hit the throttle. I can hear somewhat a noticeably deeper tone in the exhaust. Since the heat is trapped in the wrap/header longer.

The downside?
You hear stories of headers cracked due to heat distress, rust, and moisture trapped in the wrap. Though, these types of headers we have are stainless steel. So it might take some time before it actually rust out. You'll see surface rust for sure, but rust to a point where it fracture the whole header, not likely. Unless you live in a cold and salt infested region...hm...we might have a problem.

As for the header crack due to heat. I don't think heat itself will crack the header. It's the constant heating and cooling that will kill it. So I'd assumed. It's a relatively cheap header, get another one if it does crack or rust out. Or get it heat treated and not wrapped, I'm not sure if you can get rid of the "leaking" sound with that method.

The Fumoto drain plug valve? yes, I've heard of it. I don't think it's a good idea. Something something about that valve I don't trust

I'll get some new pics up when I get it painted here shortly.

The old lip is cracked in half, pretty much trash from this point

And I've bought a used set of 18x8.5 5Zigen FN01R-C wheels not too long ago. They will be paint black and stretch on with 225/40R18 tires. For clearance wise.

DAMN! Trust Lip! That lip is dough dude. Still looks absolutely sexy.

Not a fan of the 5Zigen FN01R-C's but i bet they will look nice. Wht offset?

2.5GT
09-13-2009, 09:42 PM
I got them for dirty cheap. Price of one for all four

They are 48 offset. The front will fit just fine with the fender rolled, the rear, it sat flush against the strut. So spacers will be needed for the rear. I took some measurements, It looks like I can get away with the 20mm spacers. And again, running a smaller size tire will help also. We'll see when i get the time to fix the curb rashed wheels and paint them

I purchased that same greddy lip for my car, but its getting painted before I put it on, along with B4 Sideskirts, rear spats, JDM L&R fenders, and hopefully some front aeroguards. Wish my car was red though :( I like your car allot! Very clean, and nice mods :)

Dude, a 20mm spacer in the rear? You're going to have even a 225 sitting with the entire outer tread block outside the fender lip unless you're running 4+ degrees of camber. My rears barely cleared with an 18x8.5 ET48 (without a spacer).

The black 18's will look mean, I'd just look into other ways to get clearance in the back if you can.

2.5GT
09-15-2009, 08:55 AM
I don't see any other way to do it. The rim sat flush right on the strut when i tried to mount it on the hub. Which it couldn't even sit on the hub.

I mock up 5mm, 15mm, 20mm spacers using washers. They were stack up and measured with a micrometer. So far, 5mm and 15mm would not work at all. And i have camber bolts, but there's no way I can get away with so much negative camber and still be able to clear.

I'll have to play with the rims again.

From Pence Subaru meet today, taken by a fellow Nasioc'er.

2.5RS coupe spoiler will be install soon and both front lip and spoiler will be painted to match.

And I'll be putting off the 5Zigen FN01R-C wheels at a later time. Most likely until the winter season is over. Too fat of a tire won't grip in the snow! I'll let my narrow BBS/tires do the trick

I don't think its a listed part. I believe you have to call them and ask for it. IIRC that's what 2.5GT said.

Just give CIP a call, they are mad chill :smt023

@ 2.5GT do you have any pics of your car with the RS Coupe spoiler on, maybe a pic of when you were trying it on? Most GT's with the RS wing that I've seen don't look all that great, but I'd love to see yours and see how it came out. No Im not looking into a new wing. I love my wingless look too much. Its just to satisfy my curious nature

Very nice car! I want to get the lip too, do they ship to Toronto?

2.5GT
10-20-2009, 06:47 PM
You have to call them and find out.

This is for you, 4n70n1n0.

The spoiler is not a direct bolt on for the BD. It has 2 studs and 1 plastic stud. The rear studs (1 on each side, facing towards the taillights) will line up to the trunk holes. The other 2 (facing the back window) won't, so drilling new holes is require. Or get an L trunk and then drill 2 new holes to fit. Also, with the plastic stud, it's actually held together with 2 phillip screws. If you want, you can take out the plastic stud and leave the 2 metal ones alone. The spoiler will be just fine sitting on the trunk with 2 studs.

You can see here, length wise, both of the spoiler is about the same. The base of the spoilers are different. The 2.5RS base is much bigger.

Also, the plug wire for the 3rd brake light is wired on the right side of the spoiler instead on the left like the BD. You can take out the 3rd brake light assembly and pull the wire up, drill another hole big enough on the left side, and feed the wire to it. That way, it can plug into the OEM BD wires (the plug is the same as the OEM BD one)

Wingless! It looks naked without

No, the car wasn't painted. It's a dirty all around, and swirl marks like a bat outa hell  ..Overall, the paint isn't faded, except a few spots here and there. The paint's in great shape once it's all shine up. Of course, you can't cover up the dents and scratches

But the wing does look good.

I'd remove the little plastic stand off and just run with the 4 bolts. Same thing happened to me with the Sti wing, two bolts line up and two don't.

I'm not the best photoshopper, but i do what I can

Ha! thanks man

A new and easy way to fix the rear "butt sag" I do have 1/4 Paranoid Fabrication butt sag spacers, but they hardly raise the rear up at all. Then I found these hard rubber stoppers at Autozone and decided to give these a try. I'm sure you can get them at other part stores too. It does a good job raising the rear of the car. Although it is small and might fall out if the springs is raise. So I superglue'd the bottom of the stoppers to the spring. So far, it hasn't gone anywhere yet

And as promised, better pics of the 2.5RS spoiler. I must say, it does look good. I was still contemplating if i wanted to put it on or not. I have to drill new holes, patch up the old holes and fresh paint on top of that.

The 5Zigens I've been playing with. Looks like i can get away with 5mm spacers in the rear with minimal rubbing. The front fits like a glove

Just noticed you removed the JDM mud guards and swapped them for some rally armor ones :smt016

I say put the RS wing on. That last shot sold it for me. Your easiest way to installing it would be to go with the wingless trunk and drill those holes in.

I love you for pointing our those spring boosters, I'm poor and my STi stuffs are too low in the back. While it would be best to go with the saggy butt spacers, I'm poor and at <$10, it's a good test out that doesnt require me to unbolt my struts.

Gonna try this out. Maybe I can finally carry more than 3 girls/2 guys in the back without hearing rub.

I'm keeping my trunk, cost less to keep it then buy a used one. Hopefully the front lip and spoiler will be painted this weekend, drill new holes and patch the old ones up *cross fingers*

Yes, the aero guards came off and rallyarmor went on. I like the flapidy flap flaps

The rubber spring boosters are a cheap mod to make the rear raise a bit. The same company sells longer ones also. There's a noticeable difference, It made my ride height leveled with the front.

Now I can actually see bigger pictures (I was using my phone before) I like it with the black rims. It looks more aggressive, and works with the black front lip. Color match? maybe, you think about painting all the lips to match the rims? Or maybe gloss black just to add contrast?

2.5GT
10-27-2009, 04:27 PM
Those 5Zigens were a gunmetal steel gray color. But it was all curbed and beaten up pretty bad. I wanted black wheels for the longest time, now that I've got the chance, so I decided to repair them and paint it flat black. I was thinking of the idea of the red pinstripe on the outer lip, and leave the rest black. But it might be too much for the car

There were no holes behind the 2.5GT badge, just the Legacy badge.

I'll hang on to the aero guards for a bit

At the time of test fitting the rim onto the hub. It seems like i needed more than 5mm spacers. But now with the tire on, it's very close to the strut but I can get away with 5mm spacers. That, and play around with the camber a bit.

If all goes well, the body work and paint will be done by the end of this weekend! If not, the next
