Ok so i went to the shop to install the new 225/50/17, they fit on the back fine but in the front they hit the springs, mechanic said with a 5mm spacer I should be able to fit them....so where do I get spacers?

A better option would be 225/45/17 tires, as they're much closer to stock diameter, so your speedo will still be accurate, and they shouldn't rub. Without the need for spacers, which will likely put stress on your wheel bearings, probably require longer wheel studs, and push your wheel out from the hub which centers the wheel/transfers the weight of the car to the wheel.

thanks j, going with smaller tires isn't an option at this point.

I had 225/45/17 on my BD. Why didn't they tell you they wouldn't fit?

The 225/45/17 do fit, which is what I had before. Thats why I was surprised that these don't. The 225/50 hits the tophat of the shock.

Because it has a 50 side wall. with the 225/45/ 17 you can barely put your finger between the tire and perch.

That's because he's silly and wanted more sideway for crappy New York streets, but wanted to keep 17s...

Hope the spacers work for ya dude!

IIRC, 5mm is the max that is suggested by the wheel gurus on NASIOC. Being that BE's pretty much have the same front end as all the other Subaru's, I think you can apply that rule to yours as well.

My luck keeps getting worse. With the spacers the tires do fit but the left front is rubbing......I dunno, eather alignment issues or fallout from the accident. I give up. :smt022 ..... I'd like to keep the back tires, what size do I need on the front to have the least strain on the awd.

Might be time to revert to option 2 and sell those tires to at least make some of your money back and get some proper ones. I bet someone on nasioc or rs25 would buy them maybe? If not.. shit, its still a brand new set of tires.. you should at least be able to get what you paid for them. :-? You could also get your fenders rolled.. but eh, seems like a bit of a waste of $ to me.

and on that note is there a way to raise the perch?

Coilovers will solve your problem. I'm having problems with my 18" rims too. But they will be solved before the meet.

Mismatched tires are a 'no-no' no matter what. Even if they're the same size, and brand new...enh, it's not a good idea.

Look, you should really just go back to 16s or live with the bumpy ride on the 17s.

Get coilovers to clear them. But then you're going to be stuck back to square one because you'll end up with a stiff ride

At least I'll have monster truck tires

How about OB struts and lowering springs?

That's the only way I know to "raise" the perch.

I'm looking for the cheapest solution here, and thats not it. Swapping tires is all I can do :-(
