Hi guys, I was wondering whether it is easy to install a short shifter kit for my legacy? Do i need any special tools to get the job done?

Thanks

it's fairly simple, few screws to take off some panels, unbolt shifter from linkage, pop out shifter.. install new one.

You can find more info at www.scoobymods.com (http://www.scoobymods.com)

I would get a rubber mallet just in case the new shifter doesn't want to pop in with just your fist.

Thanks for the tips guys. Now all I gotta do is find a short shifter kit and buy it  I'll be sure to report back when I get it done.

Take apart your center console before you even start looking. Verify what shifter you have because atleast here in america, 1994-1996 is when shifters got really crazy. You could have one of 3 shifters. 2 have aftermarket versions, 1 doesnt. The last shifter has the most support because it's dimensions are similar to impreza shifters. The other one with short shifter applications is harder to find because how it attaches to the shift linkage is different and the socket it sits into is different.

The last one is the I have. The only way to change this out is to switch out the entire shifter assembly (new shift fork, new shifter, and the assembly that holds it all together. Here's the shifter I hope you don't have, or else you're in for a lot more work... or one hacksaw...
