Thanks, much appreciated. It's been a long journey for this Legacy, but the will always be projects to be done. That is what I enjoy the most though. I got my inspiration for Stanz Flat Black. I went with a satin w/o the clear coats. I'm still deciding if I should keep the Yakima racks on or off.

The shop used a satin black, about 3 coats, but I asked to not put any clear coat on it.

Did you paint over the highbeam reflectors? I agree tint should be next. Maybe a dark graphite. Just remember, go with a good shop, hopefully one that has done subarus, because they have a sort of green tint to the windows, so you have to choose the color carefully.

What about tinting your sidemarkers and rear lights? It'd be one dark ride

That's sick. Very nice, very clean. Loving the OB bumper. the black wagons around here are hot.

Keep the racks; I'm biased, but it adds to the stealth-factor, makes the car look more "business-like", and it visually lowers the car.

All 3 of my Scoobs run racks year round :D

Lilripstr, are you really asking that? Did you not read the post you just quoted?

Yes, I did. But I'm asking which ones did he get because when you go to the site they have it for all the subarus but there are no applications for the BD. So I was wondering which ones would be the closest to the BD with minimal modifications. I don't want to buy it and do a lot of trimming and probably ruin them in the process, know what I mean?

Reason
07-16-2008, 08:43 PM
Understandable, cutting won't be a problem. But I was assume the 93-01 Impreza would be closest. But I think it's more position of the holes if anything.

Thanks everyone for the comps. I thinks the hardest part for me was getting the headlights off the car. I bought the angel eye kit on ebay for like $30. The supplies is got, silicone and extra wires, about $8. When I initially hooked it up the inverter was placed in a spot behind the passenger headlight. I'm assuming that because the wires for the angel eyes weren't equal length it caused the drivers side angel eyes to be dimmer. So I didn't necessarily re wire the angel eyes, I just place the inverter underneath the grill. So some reason having equal length wires made them brighter. Are you planning on installing one yourself? If so, the post on the diy section really helped me a lot.

I knew I should have taken some pics of the step by step process. But it's really simple, took me 30 mins to complete.

funny, i was working on blacking-out my fogs today also.

Yep, I thought about that, but the rear lip Andy has is different - so I was trying to figure out exactly what Legacy has.
I don't think Andy will ship from the NY area either, the lip is fiberglass and he doesn't want it damaged (don't blame him).

On the wheels, I'd rock them as-is. Clean stockers look nicer to me than painted ones (I've had a few sets of WRX wheels as well as RS wheels and always preferred the silver over painted or PC'd black). If you bump to 17's, by all means go with black

Some shots of the interior. I added the Kartboy shiftknob, pedals, and diamond plate sheets for the dead pedal and on the floor mat. I had a noticeable rip on the floor mat which is why I put on there. I also did the DIY radiator shroud project. I was pretty easy. I used an HDPE (Flexible High Density Polyethylene) material. I'm not sure if it'll withstand the heat, but I'll keep you all posted.

I used an HDPE (Flexible High Density Polyethylene) material. I'm not sure if it'll withstand the heat, but I'll keep you all posted.

HDPE is also harder and more opaque and can withstand somewhat higher temperatures (120 °C/ 248 °F for short periods, 110 °C /230 °F continuously).

However, underhood temps can be as high as
The vehicle underhood temperatures were measured during three loading conditions that were
achieved when the vehicle was stationary, driving on a level road and driving uphill. For both of
the driving conditions the vehicles were loaded to the rated capacity indicated on the door sill and
tested at several driving speeds. For the stationary tests the engine speed was selected as a
multiple of the base engine idling speed expressed in revolutions per minute (rpm). All the testing
was performed with a minimum ambient temperature of 22 ºC.
The results showed considerable variation in the maximum temperatures of different vehicles
when operated under load. While driving uphill, the maximum temperature measured on the
surface of the exhaust manifold varied from 241oC for a minivan to 550oC for a passenger car.

So I'm guessing the HDPE material isn't the best....

To drill the holes, I first put some masking tape on the three area where the screws would go. Once taped I mounted the spoiler on top of the tape and pushed down hard. This left a mark on the masking tape, thus giving me a template. From then on the hardest part was drilling holes on the wagon. Took me less than an hour to mount.

I got some bad news guys. The headers will not work with the Legacy. I failed to realize that I have a single port header and I bought a dual port. So, I ended up selling the headers. I talked to a guy by the name of Jason who works at Wolverine Performance. They make custom headers. I gave him the specs of the Single Port Borlas and it looks promising. He has tho find out if the flanges are easy to obtain and cost efficient. If so he will go ahead and make one for me. I heard that someone on RS25 had a prototype made but it might be too expensive. Hopefully Jason will give me a good deal. I am still planning on installing the Stromung mid pipe. A weld shop is going to extend it and install for $80. I think that's a pretty good deal. If you all know of a weld shop that can do it much less in the Bay Area please let me know.

Reason has a single port Borla... and Supers257 (?) on RS25 was making them.

Pity you couldn't use the header...

I just installed a new set of Enkeis from a Saab 92-X. Also installed the Stromung mid pipe. Exhaust is a bit louder now. Just need some headers and hi-flo cats and I'll have a complete exhaust system. Here's pics of the new wheels. Sorry for the crappy shots.

So I finally scored some wheels I have been wanting to get for such a long time. I've seen many postings of this model for sale on CL or i-club. The asking price was always too high for me(got a baby on the way). So, I waited patiently for several months the BAM!!! Sub Zeros for $200. I scored it because the person who had dibs lived too far and was asking the buyer to hold it for a few weeks. I will mount this as soon as I get replacement tires.

throwing more parts on won't solve a body work problem. I would honestly get that fender pull reworked so it doesnt look like crumpled sheetmetal.

That's where your wrong. Take a look at Regacy's wagon. I dont know if he pulled his fenders, but this is the route I will eventually take. As I said before, this is a work in progess and if I didn't try to fix this issue, my tires would've been ruined. Anyways, I would take it to a shop to get it reworked, but I have a baby on the way and money is something that I do not have. Those are aftermarket flares. What you were trying to have done is called a fender pull.

This is an aggressive fender pull on the rear and is something like what I think you wanted to accomplish:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/

It's fine to admit a mistake, we've all been there. Not everything you do to your car has to be 100% successful. Unfortunately it will take more work and money to fix that than to have had it done properly in the first place.

For future reference, here's a "corrected" bat method for fender rolling.

I happen to think my car looks sweet and at the end of the day what you or anyone else thinks about my car doesn't matter, so long as I like it. And by the way, I was not trying to do an aggressive pull on purpose. I was merely trying to roll my fenders, but it was not enough. This is why I ended up with pulling the fenders. I know I had other options, but you what? It's my ride that I am doing this on not yours. So if your not happy with the way it came out, then I suggest not pulling your fenders.

Ben's not beating on you for the aesthetics. He's commenting (and so are the others of us) on the fact that the baseball bat made the fender roll look pretty dented BECAUSE it was done with a less than ideal tool. Ben's the LAST one who comments negatively on aesthetics, have you even seen his BE?

I still don't know why you didn't just raise the height of the car temporarily until you got a proper roller.

Should have mentioned something - I have an Eastwood tool in my garage and I'm happy to lend a hand if people roll up to my garage.

You'll find that as you run bigger wheels and tires that getting clearance that continues a bit farther into the fender will be valuable; the stepped lip gets rid of the initial rub, but you've still got a lot of metal there. The duckbill pull isn't my thing, but we all have to learn somewhere; I did the first roll on my rears with a bat as well.

Be careful when trying to go "aggressive" - a normal fit on a WRX is already aggressive on our cars. Test fit something before you buy it if you can. Camber curves for lowered McStrut cars don't lend themselves to the crazy setups you see on the Nissan crowd, for example; we lose camber under compression instead of gaining it. Lots of the WRX guys (not all) are ignoring that fact and have cars that "don't rub" because they can't really push them. My STi drags mudflap in corners, but doesn't rub the fenders

Look close at the rear fender lip. His flat paint sort of hides it but the unevenness of the reflections off the paint is a telltale sign that he did the pull in sections and not in one smooth stroke like you get with a roller.

I showed this to some guys I know who have experience with body work and I'll save you the mean things they said about the pull, not the mention the rest of the car (they're not into the whole import "scene" anyway so whatever). I was merely being constructive in my thoughts about what he did to his car. But I suppose 7 pages of ego-stroking is worth more than one decent exchange of ideas...

Legacy, you didn't have to do the "duckbill" pull as sybir puts it. You could have saved your fenders and still have gotten your subzeros to clear pretty easily; that was what I was trying to get at. On the 2nd gen legacy's you need to dial in about -1.5 to -2.0 negative camber in the rear and a decent roll (not pull) of the fenders (easily done even with a baseball bat, as long as you know the technique, like in the link I posted) and that's usually enough to clear 7.5" width rotas even with 225 width tires, their offsets are really not aggressive at all even at your ride height.

Of course the other positive gain from this is that some negative static camber will help lateral grip on a macpherson suspension so you're getting a performance advantage on top of the looks.

The problem now is that it will be harder to undo that now than to have done a roll with an alignment.

Man Ben, you are really trying hard prove something here. You must be holding a grudge because of me winning the ROTM Battle Mode  . You even pointed out that you took it to a shop to show some guys. Why? Well as Reason says, you are entitled to your opinion and I'm cool with that. But when you make it your mission to talk trash about my ride and try to prove it to others, then I take that personally.
And just so that everyone is aware. I started off with a bat, decided to go with an eastwood and because I started with the bat, it prevented the eastwood to do what it is supposed to do. So I did make that mistake, but I am still happy with the outcome. Why don't you just let me enjoy what I have done and just move on. I do appreciate your feedback, but come on now this is too much already.

So, I got rid of the Rotas and got me a set of Enkei GF1. I also install some piaa fogs a few days ago. I think I might be catching up to Sybir as far as the set of wheels I have . I should be getting my center garnish cover today. I purchased it on Rinkya. There are a ton of Jdm parts there. I wonder if anyone else here uses this site. I'll take better pics when it cools down a bit over here.

I will be working on it today and hopefully will have time to mount it on the Subie. I'll keep you all posted.

I won this for about $20. Since it was below $25, I did not have to pay for handling fee which usually comes out to about $15. I only paid for this shipping to the warehouse in Japan then from to warehouse to my address. All in all I paid $120 total, and I used EMS which got it here in a few days. I think this is a great deal considering that this is a really rare jdm piece.

Yeah, that will be the next mod. Hopefully I can source one out that's pretty reasonable. Or I was thinking of just tinting the whole taillights. Well see. I just installed the garnish cover. I'll take some pics later tonight.

Has anyone ever tried to just paint over the stock rear? just cover off the back up lights and repaint it?

I bet you could make a mould of it pretty easily. I would want the wing part to stick out about max 1" more from the hatch though. It's almost like there's nothing there.

Looks pretty nice though, good find!

I have. I just don't have pics up, I did it about 2 weeks ago. It doesn't look great... I'm waiting to tint my corners, I'm moving into a place with a garage in about 4 hours, haha. I've got some RC car tint spray that works really nicely (tested it on another center garnish I had) I'll post pics soon. It won't be a 1:1 comparison though, as I also converted my left reverse light to a fog brake light.

I am SO jealous you found that piece. I love those mid spoilers and I've only seen one sell here in the US.

I though about going that route, but I decided to smoke my tail. In fact I'm getting it done tomorrow. :smt023

You guys should check out rinkya. It's an auction site similar to ebay. The only downside is having to pay for shipping twice.

Yea when it was red it looked larger, but once the black was on there it hides the curves more. Still a nice piece to have that not many people in the states have :smt023
