Damn Body Shop sprayed my muffler, now it matches my paint, looks ridiculous. Bought a new one from SubaruParts.com for less than half of the cost my dealer in Canada wanted to charge me.

That's a lot of JDM, very clean ride. But the body shop sprayed the muffler?? That is a major bummer.

Very nice car, it's only flaw is the auto tranny.

Agreed. I absolutely despise the BE/BH's stock steering wheel. It feels way too big...

Quick question, whats the button to the right of your cruise control?

The wiper de-icer, and as for the steering wheel, everybody seems to hate it and I agree with them. The plan is to get me a B4 steering wheel. Is it easy to install?. I know my dealer does not what to do it since there are "scared" of the airbag blowing up in their faces are something like that, as if!!!!!!!!

Reason

Yea the stock steering wheel is plain. I'm used to it, thats what I had so I didn't even notice it at first.

SilentRacer

Its a 10 minute install. People seem to have a general ignorance of how an airbag works.

legacyB4RSK

Little enough to make swapping parts easy
Big enough for the end result to look kick ass, like a Legacy GT should of looked like.

The steering whell is very easy to install - cutting the hole for the cruise stalk is a bit of a guess, but if you are good it can look factory. I like the bumper lip - I wonder if they made them for the '02 bumper style? I need more JDM

Very nice - may I ask where you got the headlights? Looking for a set of those myself.

Also, interesting to see what the JDM spoiler looks like - mine came with the spoiler and it has that same indentation.

legacyB4RSK
12-10-2008, 11:00 PM
Got the headlights from 5mileimports, I actually have 3 sets. The set I have on at the moment are brand new, the other set is ok but the driver's side has condensation problems. Actually you should be able to get a set from Andivic, just PM him, he had bought a mint condition set for me but I will not need them. The good thing about my new set is that I guess the factory setting is to aim the beam low, so I don't end up blinding anyone.

SubaGlue

Full paint job using my original color code. $3000 CND which is about $2100 US or something like that. Damn exchange, I remember when our dollar was at par. I'll be posting updated pics sometime next year as I have the JDM rear bumper and JDM sideskirts installed as well as sidemarkers. I also have 2 pot rears to match the fronts and last but not least, a 2006 WRX 2.5 swap and tune to give me 280 WHP as well as a conversion to 5 speed.

SubaGlue

It's actual factory tinted JDM rear window with the built-in hole. Funny thing is the USDM Legacies already have a hole in the trunk roof for the wiper shaft.

swiftman007
07-29-2009, 01:46 PM
So you ordered the back window from Japan? That must cost an arm and a leg for the shipping! The JDM rear wiper is a very cool addition

Im very impressed by the work you done to your car, very very nice, Congrats

legacyB4RSK
07-29-2009, 02:15 PM
Thanks...Yeah, most people would think I'm nuts for spending $1400 US to get the rear window, but hey, I don't care, that's how much I love the 3rd gen Legacies (from Japan) and want to have my car resemble the B4 RSK. And I'm almost there, sidemarkers are next, B4 RSK catback this winter etc..

peugoby
07-29-2009, 07:36 PM
Simply the nicest 3rd gen in North America. Beautiful work. I can't believe you got the rear window and wiper! That is dedication.

How does the rear bumper match up to the rest of the bumper? I remember Airgne's had kind of a weird gap. How do the JDM side skirts differ from the North American market ones? They look the same.

legacyB4RSK
07-29-2009, 07:48 PM
Thanks for the compliments, the JDM bumper was reworked by the local Subbie dealer to match the stock fender curve, so it looks stock.

Here is the diff between mine and Airgne's

The JDM Side skirts have a notch at the front and rear that the USDM does not have.

No worries, you helped me a bunch by giving me that link to ISDC in Ireland, a member (Goldenjohn) sent me a few pics that provided me the exact location to mount the mounting plate. Thanks again for the reference. BTW I already have the JDM MOMO steering wheel, will be installed during my WRX swap this winter. I have been trying to contact (B4_Rsk) on the site as he set aside some cables for me. I can't PM since I am not a paying member.

what plug? my steering wheel is from a JDM B4 and it was plug and play with the airbag connector. You can easily transfer the cruise control module from your old steering wheel. I did a DIY of it on NASIOC.

scubydu
08-27-2009, 09:02 AM
Did you have to replace the fenders as well to install those or did you just drill a hole? It looks like they are inset.

legacyB4RSK
08-27-2009, 09:27 AM
Here's the story.

I bought the jdm fenders last year and when I had the dealer install them, although they fit, the problem was my USDM doors could not open without hitting the fenders. It appears the jdm fenders are tighter to the body then the USDM fenders. My thought was to just replace the doors with the jdm version (which I had waiting for me in Toronto) but upon further consideration I decided not to since I most likely would of had to replace my rear quarter panels which I was not willing to do. I'm crazy but there's a limit to my madness.

So I had the dealer cut out the factory stamp from the jdm fenders and transfer them over to my Usdm ones. As you can see, they did a bang on job. They look stock. Simply cutting a hole was not acceptable to me, I wanted the factory indent for looks, more for me than anything, but the fact that it was noticed validates my decision.

Airgne
08-27-2009, 01:33 PM
ok if your goin to get a 06 wrx driveline. are you talking the hole rear sub frame? if you dont replace the hole rear sub frame you will need the kartby adapter. i know this because i bought the wrx backing plates so the calipers would bolt right up WRONG!!. the impreza rear wheel bearing is alot smaller than the lagacy one. also the wheel bearing mounting bolts are not in the same spot. trust me on this i just went threw haveing the wrx backing plates than having to get the kartboy adapters overnighted to me since i needed the car.

legacyB4RSK
08-27-2009, 01:56 PM
I'm not sure to be honest with you. But I have the kartboy adapters and other bits required anyway.

yeah, sorry man, I know you asked me this before you were about to do this and I only remembered about whether the wrx backing plates would fit a BE when you actually started the "mushy pedal" thread...one of those "oh shi- I forgot if that would even work!" moments

I'm not sure to be honest with you. But I have the kartboy adapters and other bits required anyway.

yeah the subframe won't bolt up (macpherson in the rear for the wrx, multilink on yours) but the rear diff will to match your transmission - the rear axles and hubs won't transfer over. It looks like the KB style brackets are the only way to get 2 pots on a BE, short of getting the backing plate part no.'s for the JDM B4.

legacyB4RSK
08-30-2009, 02:21 PM
Yeah, I guess I misunderstood the guy, I'm not getting the rear subframe nor the hubs, so I
ll need the KB adapters as I originally intended.

Hey sorry for my bad english, but i'll try to do my best with this question:

Are your sidemarkers blinking at the same time as your corner light (like this video)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLlPj9V6CFg

Because a couple of years ago I installed some sidemarker on my swift (!)... and the corner light and the sidemarker were not flashing together, at the same time

Was it hard to install?

Thx

legacyB4RSK
11-28-2009, 12:24 AM
Yes they flash at the same time, I took the wire from the bottom bulb (dual filament bulb) and used it for the sidemarkers. The result is only the top corner bulb and the sidemarkers blink, just like the JDM legacies, whereas the USDM legacies have both the top and bottom bulb flash.

I had the dealer install the sidemarkers by cutting out the factory stamp from the JDM fenders I got and transfering them over to new USDM fenders. The reason I had to do that was 1) the JDM fenders are tighter to the car than the USDM (front door hits the fender when opening/closing. 2) could of had them simply cut a hole in the existing fenders but wanted to retain the factory look.

Of course with cutting the (signal light) wire from the bottom bulb, this caused a reduction in resistance on the circuit and the result was , my flashers blinked very fast. For the moment I jury rigged the another bottom bulb to retain the original resistance, works fine. The permament solution is to get an inline resistor.

Cheers

Way too much money, the problem is I have to keep going till I'm done, i've passed the point of no return. It's funny how the more mods you put on, it never seems to be enough. i saw in your updated mod list in a different thread, it says you used perrin front endlinks. Which model of Perrin endlinks are these and will they still fit a BE legacy that is not swapped? Also is it possible to use Perrin rear endlinks as well? Thanks for your help.

oh yeah nice update! You are right, those interior shots are very scary :( Swap by yourself?

Im surprised you didnt end up choosing a Twin-Turbo B4 engine

wiring is the worst!

I think you have to have right hand drive for those twin turbo engines...

That's correct since the steering column would get in the way of the turbo routing. I would like to get the twin turbo engine cover just for looks and to hide stuff. Not sure if it would fit properly.

I thought 2006 wrx engines were throttle by wire did you use a 2.0 liter intake mani?

You're bang on, 05 WRX heads with 02 WRX intake so that I don't have to worry about VVT. Runs very well.

They're not JDM fenders but they sure look like them. USDM fenders with the JDM factory stamp inserted containing JDM sidemarkers

Stamp? care to explain?

The jdm fenders come with the stamp or in other words(indent) so that the sidemarkers are recessed into the fender. I could of easily just cut out a hole in my fenders but it would not have had the factory look. Of course likely only I would notice but it just shows you my attention to detail.

You mentioned that you had the "JDM factory stamp inserted "

This is what the JDM fender looks like. Courtesy of YamakaziSubaru.

How exactly did you "insert the stamp"

I am curious since my buddy is trying to build a RSK/S401 replica.

This thread delivers.
Amazing work you perform on the BE chassis, was wondering what drivetrain are you using? the WRX or the STi 6spd?
Any pics of the cluster?
Keep up the good work man.

Tell me about it!!! Slow as molasses! No one is more frustrated than me, the problem is it's being worked on part time, been there since March 6 , lost my whole with the car. It's 99% done , there is a problem with the speed sensor , it's not getting power and it is believed that this fact is putting the engine in limp mode so it have to be fixes before I can drive the car normally and safely.

How's the progress coming along?
You have a USDM Baja Turbo hood, correct? Was there mesh in the hood scoop to prevent debris from entering the engine bay?
Thanks and I love your car...

legacyB4RSK

It's comming good, put 600k on it, pretty quick .... And that's with a basic tune, low boost. To answer your question, since I'm running an '08 STI TMIC I decided to remove the mesh from the baja turbo hood since it greatly restricted the amount of air hitting the intercooler, with it removed, the entire surface of the TmiC is getting air.

You can get them from any dealer, but check out subarugenuineparts.com like I stated before, they seem to be priced very well and they are extremely helpful from what I have heard.

No dealership-based online store will ship you a hood. Its $300 unpainted from a dealer, its about even once shipping is factored in anyway.
