So I figured since I finally got a tool I can really find some good use for I will share it with all here..

at first I was just going to get one that just showed the code and no description until bdubs changed my mine to spring for one that does show it.

I brought this for $65 shipped on ebay and it's nice comes with the 9v battery so you can read the codes away from the car (wont save when you power off) and it shows live data which works.. You can pretty much do everything else a cheaper scan tool does just that from what I can see you can see live data and get the description to know what it means.

the display is backlit when only connected to the car it lights up a light blue color

Just got mine today, works really well, and the live data has all kinds of readings. Definitely recommend this tool and it works on my 2001 Subaru Outback.

:smt023 Glad it works out well for you haha I forget who here told me to get this model but well worth it since I don't need to look up the codes and the live data is pretty good.

What do you guys think about OBD II USB ones? They are cheap and since I already have a lap top I think it would be better idea. Any input?

I can't say.. but I rather not be computer dependent.. I mean I have 3 laptops and I could spare one for the car but what happens if something like a hard drive crashes?

You get a lot more functionality with lap top OBD II software than you'd get with OBD II reader. And if it does breaks you can just use another lap top.
