Thanks :)

Actually, I was thinking of something like the grill mesh from the home depot idea..... but w/e, nice job using paint

well...

if you've got a lot of time to mess around with stuff and not a lot of money, doing home depot projects can solve both issues.

I've actually had a bunch of 'home depot' type projects come out incredibly well, but theres no substition for most big name aftermarket modifications.

but come on, you know you want a cardboard dvd player, it looks hot.

A good cleaning (take stuff apart and clean it), carpet cleaning, and fixing stuff (like some bulbs which might be burnt out) would make stuff look good. I know Id much rather have a freaking clean interior than a freaking blingin one, lol.

You can always paint some parts of the interior (the trim around the stereo, heat controls, gauges and such) although Im not a fan of this. A nice set of pedals, perhaps some of that gauge trim from ebay, umm.... i cant think of much else.

Anyway, personally Id leave my interior alone except for making it look clean.

On the note of bulbs, does anyone know where I can get bulbs for the A/C controls? The bank of push button lights for the fan controls (face, face/feet, feet, etc) is out, and I don't know where to begin to look....
I do understand what you mean about cleanliness and keeping a clean car is one of my priorities....it definitely does a lot for the car :D

I've actually got some 3" PVC lying around.....

Nice Link, thanx gator
We've got some subaru credit (couple hundred bucks worth) at the dealer, and that might go on the list of things to do or to have them do.... again thanks.

That whole bank you are talking about with the foot or defrost selection on the BD/BG's...the lights underneath the pictures are out? or the pictures dont light up?

Because the pictures don't light up, they're just painted on - just to throw that out there, One bad design flaw on Subaru's part, but once you get it memorized in the dark it isn't a big deal.

You could always save up some cash and get an OB digital HVAC control. Haven't seen too many people do this cause of the wiring involved, but it'd be pretty neat lookin.

I'm diggin the cardboard nav system and the painted momo logos...gonna have to look into that.

On a serious note though, if you want a practically free diy mod that may get you a little power, do a snorkusectomy, or in english, gutting your intake silencer.

The intake silencer, or snorkus, is a weird looking critter that lives in your fender and robs your engine of power at the sake of harmonically balancing the intake sound to make it more aesthetically pleasing to the family sedan (or wagon) owner.

Long story short, you jack up your car, take the wheel off, take the wheel well plastic out (or pull it back so the front part of the fender is open enough to pull the snorkus out), remove a couple screws in the snorkus and a couple inside your stock air filter box, and pull that thing out. Get yourself some aluminum air duct tape from home depot (or if you happen to have it laying around your house) and seal the (now larger) hole in the airbox to the hole in the fender, the aluminum taping makes a great airtight seal thats durable so you will now only be sucking cold air out of your fender, not from inside your engine bay.

I'll have to find the links to the information over on www.scoobymods.com (http://www.scoobymods.com) , I had this mod on the old site, but it all got lost when it crashed, I'll post up a new thread on it sometime soon so you can get all the details, but that should suffice you to get the job done. You'll have a slightly more aggressive sounding intake, and if you saved some change to get a green air filter, you'd notice an even bigger difference. Do it up.

Couple of questions: What's a 'green' air filter?
Also, You're saying the snorkus is underneath the filter box, sort of inside the sheetmetal but on top of the tire right? I'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about, and seeing that link would be really cool.
Thanx for the tips....I'm sure this'll help more than just me. 8)

Green is the name of the filter.

The snorcus is in front of the passenger tire and hidden by the plastic guard inside the wheel well.

Pwise: are you sure those pictures (by pictures I mean the buttons to control where the air flows) dont light up? Because mine do...

Wiscon_Mark
05-07-2005, 04:37 PM
No, he was just asking me which bank it was that wasn't lighting up....and its the light that lights up the pictures, not the green/orange lights that highlight which one is selected, so its probably only one bulb.

Pwise2326
05-07-2005, 04:52 PM
The pictures light up??? I wish I had a pic to point out the parts of the button...the majority of the button is the image of what that button controls (face, face and feet, just feet, feet and defrost, defrost), underneath the picture is a little green (or amber for defrost) indicator light telling you which one is selected....so Sha_z, you're saying your pictures (the actual image of the face, feet, etc) light up? Mine don't and look like they are just painted on. Any other BD/BG owners that can verify this? What I was saying to Mark is that the pictures dont light up, only the little green or orange indicator lights at the lower end of the button light up, so unless those are out he doesnt have any problems. Sha_z...take a picture of your HVAC controls lit up at night if you can please!

Wiscon_Mark
05-07-2005, 04:57 PM
Okay, lets get this cleared up. The pics used to light up. They went out somewhere in the last 2000 miles. The painted part is a semi-transparent section on the button that lets light through, but I think there's only one bulb behind all 5 buttons, because it seems (seemed, I guess) brighter in the middle. And its cheaper to make that way. That's how it is on mine (BK, made in Indiana, but the same as a BG/BD). Take some pics, Sha_z, maybe Pwise here has the same outage as I do. The dash lights on the Subies in that era were always known to be problematic.

No good, that whole tube idea down to the bottom of the fender is just asking for trouble. Check out post #12 in this thread: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3411 and click on each of the links, it will show you how to take it out, give you some info on green filters vs. k&n and why you should go green, and the last one being an underhood temperature study, showing cold air can really only come out of the fender. I'll post it up all pretty here soon. I didn't realize I was corresponding with Deadlydave over on scoobymods last year or whenever it was about the same thing, he'd be another good person to talk to about taking it out. Definatly check out the links I posted on post #12, will give you all the info you need.

so just to get this straight, we remove the snorkus (all the stuff in the front passenger fender) and the silencer (the small collar attached to the filter box), then if we want to we can add some PVC piping (which gets rid of the harmonic noise?)

interestingly enough, today I decided to pull all of my interior trim off and bring it inside to clean since it was so fucking hot outside today, plus with the rain coming I didn't want to be halfway cleaning my car and have to quit

So I pulled everything inside, the door panels, radio trim, shifter trim, center console, etc.... everything. My car has been stripped completely for a complete cleaning and revitalization.

I decided to re-paint my trim pieces, the parts that had been the fake woodgrain plastic I've re-painted black, and the black pieces that were surrounding the wood-trim pieces have been painted a hammered steel look, along with the radio bezel, shift trim, and central AC vent cover. Haven't figured out how to get the outter two AC vent covers off to paint them, but I'll leave that till next week maybe.

I'll post pics here in a few minutes,
Cheers!

Granted I can try the search method but it's a real PITA to use, but could you post the link to the removal? I'm going to be painting all my trim some time and would like to remove those vents as well and paint them but haven't figured out how to do it.

ah, bloody hell, I found it for ya:

mark, you can go to a local body shop supply company, and get the color of your vehicle made in a spray can, and if you pull some of the interior trim pieces out, you cant paint them and clear coat them too. its easy and look tight. i did it and i like the results, though yopu have to remember prep is the key to painting.

When you take the bulbs out change the colors and you have a modification right there. Also You can do alot of fiber glassing to make the inside look sleek.

Take your door cards off buy ant cool fabric of your choice and swap the fabric on your panels to whatever you want with some spray adhesive and some time. Subaru made it easy once you take the cards off the fabric section unscrews from the door card. So you rip off the old fabric and spray some glue on there and strech your new fabric on. It doesnt even have to really be cut to size cause once your screw it back on all the excess can be trimmed after behind the panel. Im going to find some cool fabric soon and do this so maybe ill make a DIY.

you gotta pull real hard sideways a little to get them off. the vent goes over the inside piece and clips on so you gotta kind of spread them tabs outwards. it is a pain and you might break one side. good luck
