heatsoak, and definitely yes.

i assume one of the aftermarket TMIC's would be better than the stock TMIC but i am still gonna run into the heatsoak issue. i guess i will have to bite the bullet and go FMIC....just trying to avoid the extra work

Fmic has its disadvantages also. More piping means it'll take longer for the air to get there. The intercooler also sits low to the ground which means its susceptible to getting hit by rocks and exhaust from the car in front of you. Benefits are ofcource the colder air near the ground. What other mods do you have?

Also, don't forget that a TMIC adds to the "sleeper" aspect of the car which is always nice. How much heat soak are you having now and how often? There are ways to lower the amount of heat soak using water sprayers and such. Have you tried any of that yet?

I'd hold off on the TMIC/FMIC till you get more power mods that would require the extra cooling. Otherwise you will spend alot of money and not see any results. Are you auto or manual?

well on the BE legacies, there's really not many TM options out there, just watch out for WRX/STI TMICs as the earlier ones (in the US, the pre 06 ones) have more space in between the engine and the firewall so the stuff available for them won't physically fit in the space you have. You can look into an 06-07 (USDM again, not sure your equivalent, the vagina/hawkeye ones) sti's, their IC's are larger but they share a similar dimensions to the firewall as your car.

The big thing is that youre TT, the piping will be different, I'm not sure if your turbo piping is easily adaptable to the sti IC one and vice versa.

and this is my big concern...most people work on their STI's around here...few legacies. maybe that will change with more of them being sold but not sure how many are TT so i guess i have to do the legwork by going to the junkyards and seeing what is left on those legacies.

Watersprayer for the IC. Cheap, easy and effective.

Last time I looked, not every car has an ostentatious hoodscoop stuck on it. Blacked out FMIC is the definition of "hidden power"

Last I looked, not every hood scoop (more than half) served any purpose at all. So, a hood scoop means nothing. I do, however, love the blacked out FMIC. That one almost looks like a radiator...

I think IC water spray will help a lot... Going to post results in a few days... :smt023

It absolutely helps a lot if you're experiencing heat soak. You'll notice a difference immediately. Which sprayer did you get? Is it automatic, manual, both?

can u post a diy on how u did that?

Steinbruchsoldat

Yes I could do that, but I don`t think it`ll be useful, because I think you can`t get the parts I can get here in germany. For example the temp controller. With another one it`ll be different...

But I`ll write a DIY about the basics, so everyone can build with his own parts... :smt020

Uh, we can get temp sensor/controllers here in the USA.

Yes for sure... But they won`t be the same like mine, so wiring is different...

Yes. The sensors should have a diagram with them though. So, people should be able to follow your DIY without many problems/differences. Thanks, btw!

Now that it's cooler outside; I usually find that my TMIC is almost cold to the touch; even from just cruising at 30 mph.

I adjusted my temp controller to about 35°C core temp, and it`s only spraying when the car stands, not at driving conditions. So it works well, and the water spray eliminates heat soak... :smt023
