Deads Model cars (super pic heavy)

I figured not too many of you know I build model cars so I thought I would show off some of my cars...

I have been doing this since I was about 9 years old, well at least finishing them. Mom and dad started me on them to keep me out of trouble as a kid and it turned into an obsession at one point. I have been competing since I was 14 and have won some ribbons and such, but I have since chilled and just do it for fun now.

I have built some as commissions (paid), but I dont do it too often since people dont like to pay what it takes to build a nice car.

Anyway, here are a few I have done. Over the years I think I might have built about 200-300, never did keep count, but at one point I had 13 64 Impalas that I had built, only two sit in a display case.

FYI: All of these are kits that are unpainted, so yes I painted every parts, changed wheels on most, shaved doors handles, made custom parts, and so on and so on. Like I said, I really get into it. You guys should see some of the customs projects I stil have yet to finish... Sometimes I bite off more then I can chew....

I'll try and detail what I can remember. It's been years since I built some of these... In not real order of when I built them...

    Fujimi R-32 GTR

Another Tamiya R-32 GTR (can you tell I love R32's?)

Vintage Revell Datsun 240Z... Saved from someones scrap bin, stripped and re-painted..

AMT 1965 Chevy El Camino... This was it's 2nd paint job. Was originally blue and done when I was about 16, I stripped it and re-built the whole car about 4 years ago...

Hasagawa 1964 Buick Wildcat. I got 3rd in the Seattle Nationals about 6-7 years ago with the car for best replica (of a real car).

    Aoshima TRD Toyota Chaser

Tamiya Ford Focus WRC... Converted it from a Rally car to a street car.

    Hasagawa Civic

    Fujimi CRX Glass Top

    Fujimi Civic Type R

Tamiya 1985 Civic... My twisted way of pocking fun at ricer's... haha... So many parts from other cars to make this work.

Tamiya 95 Accord JTCC converted to street custom. So I went through a ricer phase...

Revell Acura Integra Type R... I was one of the first people to get one of these since I worked at a hobby shop at the time and built to so I could sell more. I was the head of inventory at the time.

Re: Deads Model cars (super pic heavy)

These next 2 cars have a lot of meaning to me... My dad built these back in 1960. I played with them as a kid and broke them, but then for fathers day about 10 years ago, I restored them for him as best I could. I have them now, but they both mean a lot to us.

AMT 1940 Ford Coupe (Original 1959 issue of kit, black plastic)

With my AMT 1940 Ford Coupe. Same kit, but 1990 issue in tan plastic.

AMT 1957 Chevy, again, my dads from 1960. Original 1959 issue with white plastic.

AMT 1049 Ford Coupe... My version of that same 40 Ford dad built... Kits are almost the same, but with updated custom parts.

No joke, I built this BEFORE I had my Silvia! Funny thing is, I have a pile of S13 Silvia kits, but have never built them. Not sure why, but I just havent.

I wanted a bright red, coupe, with an SR, sunroof, triple projectors, and 5 spoke wheels... Lets see how close I got..

Re: Deads Model cars (super pic heavy)

    More cars...

Fujimi Toyota Altezza (IS300 in the USA)

AMT 1959 El Camino, LOTS of custom detail work... Killed a 59 Impala for a lot of the detail parts.

AMT 1963 Impala.. Built when I was 15, got 3 ribbons with this car. The last one I was mistakenly placed in the adult category at the time and still got 3rd! haha

Revell 32 Ford Coupe... Not much of a Hot Rod guy, but thought I would give it a try.

Tamiya Volvo 850 BTCC Wagon. Converted to a custom street car.

Fujimi BMW Alpine. Built when I was 14, got lots of ribbons with this car for some reason.

Fujimi Porsche 911... I challenged myself to do a fast built. Took less then a week, and a total of 1 1/2 hours, most of that time was dry time for the paint. Turned out kinda nice!

Tamiya Toms/Castrol Supra... This car made me hate decals with the intensity of a 1000 suns! Over 200 decals... ugh...

AMT 1964 Impala. A little more lowrider

Hasagawa Bug... This little guy got into a magazine! I didnt even place, but every one liked it so much, the magazine put it in anyway! My little claim to fame!

Fujimi Subaru Impreza STi.... I know, you guys are thinking "Finally a Subaru!"... haha... I have a few of them, but I didnt get into Subarus till I stopped working at the hobby shop and these kits are spendy!

Re: Deads Model cars (super pic heavy)

Tamiya Toyota Land Cruiser. This is still a work in progress. I have a ton of lifted truck projects, but keep putting them off till I know how to build them the way I want.

AMT Ford Ranger. I started this when I was a freshmen in high school. Didnt finish it till about 2 years ago, only took me about 15 years... haha... Oh we were the Foster Bulldogs if you didnt figure that one out.

Re: Deads Model cars (super pic heavy)

Ok, here are more of my cars that I have finished in the last couple years. Just dont have the time that I once did...

AMT Plymouth Valiant custom. I got it with a lot of used kits and the car was hald done. These kits are SUPER rare and everyone at the show enjoyed seeing it, even though it was a simple build.

Revell Ford Mustang. A few years ago I was about to buy one (happy I didnt), but this is what I wanted it to look like.

Re: Deads Model cars (super pic heavy)

AMT 1949 Ford I built when I was 16... looks better in person...

AMT 1957 Chevy... Custom I started when I was 14, still have never finished... My work back then was horrible, but I cant make myself toss it in the trash. I keep it as a reminder to keep trying.

Revell Civic... I have friends that give me all there old kits they dont want, or never finish. This was one of them. I fixed the paint then finished it... Not much let of how it came to me..

Aoshima Skyline GTS-T 4 door... This is a car I'm gonna try to import just because I love them! So cool!

Re: Deads Model cars (super pic heavy)

Ok... thats it... no more cars as of now... I have about 5 or 6 finished cars I still havent taken pics of, but that will be another day.

I will post a pic of some of my new projects I got though!

Took a bit of looking, but I found myself a BG kit and a couple BH kits. As soon as I have the extra expendable funds, I'll hunt down a BE. No BD kits where ever made that I know of ...

So her ya go... my trio of Leggys to be built! I might even do a DIY for one of them so you guys can see one start to finish!

I would love a DIY! I was in to model airplanes when I was younger but nothing that looked that good.

I think you mean 88 Supra

Tails look like pre-89, yet it has the 89+ front bumper...and it has the Group A intercooler vent in the front bumper. Nifty.

Re: Deads Model cars (super pic heavy)

HAHA! Yeah, I noticed I did that to a couple cars... one car is a 1049 Ford... haha.. L'll fix it later...

I meant to say 89 Supra, but it might be an 88... Many of these kits have extra parts to do early, mid, or late versions. I know most of the S13 Silvia's have all the sets of different head lights in the kit.

And thanks for the feedback guys! Even though I know I'm not too bad at this, it's nice to know when your work is admired.

I did leave out some other pics... This is what I used for the set for some of my older photos... This is a wecking yard I built a few years back. Got 3rd place with it for diorama... I felt I should have got 2nd, but what ever. I know I got my ass kicked by the 1st place guy!

This is my hallway to the shop... Looks about the same, even though I sold off most of my old collection...

    Totally forgot about this truck!

One of my favorite projects! Almost done, just detail stuff now...

Aoshima Nissan Tranno (Pathfinder)... I love mini trucks! You can slid a piece of paper under it, thats all..

AMT Chevy s-10 I have been worked on, on and off for a couple years... First attempt to body drop a model car the right way and still have full detail.

Re: Deads Model cars (super pic heavy)

These are AWESOME! I have few unbuilt or partly-built models in the basement, but they are almost all Star Trek (Enterprise NCC-1701/A/B/C/D and E versions) and one completed kit from Star Wars: http://culttvman.com/main/?p=16879

I haven't built a car kit since about 7th grade, though I've been tempted to many time over the years. With you being a paint/body guy and all, I'm sure your you have a unique insight into how to build these fabulous creations!

These are amazing! I must say, that the wrecking yard and the 2 ratty ones are my favorite!

No matter what, dont toss models in the trash! It can amaze you how much some people will pay for an old kit. I'm still looking for a 1967 Chevy truck kit by MPC. Last one I stated bidding on, on ebay sold for $160+. My bid was at $50. Super rare kits and the only one of my 67 Chevy truck.

Also, I sold some old 1960's kit parts, PARTS, for $50 on ebay. I was about to toss them, but thought someone might want them. That got me my JDM side markers... LOL

Also thanks again for the feedback. I will be starting a DIY and progress thread on one of my Legacy Wagons. Two of them are started, but the other is bran new.

Re: Deads Model cars (super pic heavy)

I used to build...actually gave a few hundred worth of models to a friend in exchange for him building me a subwoofer box for my truck, which I have also given away. I miss doing it, but I dunno when I would have the time anymore...maybe in winter, but painting a body in the winter sucks. Here's a couple pics that were still on my photobucket...
