Man, this REALLY makes me miss my old wagon. You did exactly what I always wanted to do with the generic v-limited style lip. Are you planning on trimming the front bumper to make it fit flush?

But yeah, clean car man. Keep taking care of it!

No I won't be trimming the bumper. At eye level it's hardly noticeable and I'll have to remove it for winter anyways. No way it'd make it through the whole season.

The wheels have grown on me, but the paint has proved to be very weak (chipped off around some of the lug nuts), so instead of selling i'll probably give them to my mom for her SWP '06 Legacy. Unless someone else wanted them, but I'd be shocked if I could get more than $400 or so with the paint how it is. Can't wait to get my BBS powdercoated.

This happened over the weekend. Got it mostly out but will need a little bit more work.

Also considering unloading both the Speedlines and BBS for a set of the new Enkei TS-10.

    17x8 +45 17.7lbs @ $195 a piece. Those would be paired with 225/45-17 PSS.

    Might have rod knock again.

FML. Afraid I'll have to unload or part the car if that's the case. I can't afford to keep fucking with it. I just ordered new headlights as well to the tune of $320.

Been creeping on this thread for awhile now, and it pains me to see that you might have rod knock again! My outback has been doing it lightly forever, but if you do end up parting it I want I dibs your lip and maybe some suspension components haha!

Damn, seems like you've been having all kinds of bad luck with your car. If I can help the cause I might be interested in the Speedlines for winter wheels if you've still got them, shipping will be fun though lol.

I would just drive the motor into the ground if it is knocking and don't look back if it does go. Good luck with it!

This car is one of my biggest inspirations. I would hate to see it be put down. But after reading all of your issues I can understand!

Found a tiny bit of metal on the dipstick, so my suspicions are probably correct. I'll try using a thicker oil to see if I can mitigate the issue somewhat or keep it from getting much worse. What sucks is my commute is going from 75mi/day to 100mi/day this Friday.

Although I was thinking that if I can make it last long enough maybe I can source an EG33, and do what was always my end goal for the car.

I'll grab some high-visc oil and hopefully the weather is decent Wednesday or this weekend for me to change it.

EDIT: Just remembered I just ordered new headlights as well to the tune of $320 *facepalm*

Say it aint so! The BGs and BKs seem to be dropping off SL-i at an accelerating pace. Your car is an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others here so best of luck keeping it going.

I still have parts that never made it one as well like Audi end links (like Kyle) and NIB window visors. The more I think about it the more EG swap sounds like a better idea than financing a S2000 or NC2 Miata (cheaper overall). EG33, headers, etc? Think it can be done for under $2K?

I've fumbled with the idea a bit, debating between building the EJ22e-T vs just a simple EJ20g or the EG33.

From what I've read quite a few guys made the EG33 swap work for around the $2,000 mark, but a lot of it was doing custom fabrication, cutting out the core support and welding in another plate, stuff like that just to get clearance for the radiator.
I don't think it's entirely necessary to cut it out but you've got to mount the rad in front of the core support, no way it'll fit otherwise. I think stock headers work, wiring is what it is, take your time and DIY or have a relatively quick turnaround and have someone else do it. If you want to keep it a daily car though, I did a few things about setting up the heater core and A/C but it was kind of wishy washy. Some said that routing for the heater was pretty easy, some said they couldn't do it.

I think an EG33 swap would be so badass. The sound and powerband are pretty raw, those are the things that draw me to it so much.

    It's our cars RallyX cousin.

You can get a little peak at the engine bay in this car just to get an idea of what it physically looks like in the engine bay.
Looks like they just made a flat rad support bar, drilled holes in the existing core support and bolted the new support bar in, seems kind of tight but the fabrication doesn't really have to be anything more than cut, drill then bolt up. Seems like they retained the bumper beam and stuff, hood latches are a requirement so if you've got to get locking latches if you live in an area with assholes nearby.

I've got no problem modifying the core support. I think even with paying someone to do the wiring I could hit the $2K mark. Although it would be SOOO hard not to tear into the engine just for inspection, but that would drive the cost up quite substantially. I'd also probably not be satisfied with the stock headers knowing that I could probably make my own. The only issue is I just put $1200-1500 in completely rebuilding the 25D. And I hope that I can mitigate the knock so I can sell some parts to recoup some cash. I'm sure I could find a buyer for my rebuilt heads, STi crank (if it doesn't get too damaged) pistons, new oil pump etc. I think think I could hit under 2k if I could get $5-600 from various parts of the 25D.

How could I NOT try to make my own long tubes after hearing this

Plus my mom lives in Florida now so I can register my car there and not have to worry about NYS inspections.

It would be totally awesome! If you still have all of your stock parts you could part with some of the aesthetic bits and sell your aftermarket ones. That would turn a decent project, but I wouldn't stress about it too much until it gets bad. We have leggys come into the dealership with BAD knock that have been doing it for 50k+ miles.

So I've basically decided to start my search for an EG33 and such to begin amassing parts for a swap. I know I need a SVX harness to merge (not gonna try wiring from scratch) but do I need the ECU as well?

Thanks. Too bad the images are broken. I've found a couple decent parts car on the west coast, but shipping them wouldn't be very frugal I'm guessing. I guess I should ask if anyone knows if I should be looking for a later OBDII car? We have plug-in tests for inspection here.

Edit I managed to find an OBDII ECU. Gave the seller an offer. Now I'm finding that headers/exhaust manifolds are IMPOSSIBLE to find.

Purchased the ECU, and have a runner lined up. Gonna trailer it back Wednesday. High mileage though so I'll most likely just grab a JDM import engine to use instead. Anyone want a high mileage but running (daily driven) EG33?

Oh I never posted a picture. I think it's a flood car but oh well. It runs. I'll order a radiator today. BG radiator will fit possibly even with the stock rad hoses, and BG fans will also fit (BARELY). I'll just buy a radiator for $60-ish and swap my fans over. Hopefully that ill be good enough to put this thing on the road. Haven't been able to find any cheap used snow tires though unfortunately except for a set on SVX wheels for $200, but they're 2 hours away from me.

That SVX actually seems pretty clean! Glad that you've got plans for the future. Glad this car will live on.

It's got a rebuilt title. I think it was a flood car. It's pretty rough from every other angle 😂

Unfortunately I haven't even gotten a radiator in the svx. I'm still trying to find someone to do the harness merge for me. No matter what group I ask I never get any responses.

Same here with getting responses. What about iwireservices.com? Of course that's half your budget right there. BattleWagon on here picked up an EG33 for his Brighton a year ago and hasn't been heard from since. Anyone else on SL-i with this swap?

Just looked at the site and nothing about the EG33. They did mention OBDII but you'd probably have to contact them. Prices look to be $700 and up.

IWire replied saying they will only attempt it if a standalone ecu is supplied. Yeah not looking to spend $1500+ on the wiring

Small, if somewhat meaningless update. I had my BBS wheels powder coated. I wanted to do it last year but never got around to it so I wanted to make sure I did it this year.

They are a light gray (think Nardo Gray, but slightly lighter) with a machined outer circumference/lip. I wanted darker gray but once I got them on the car I loved them. The lip isn't very noticeable in sunlight but you immediately know something is different about them.

Pictures don't really do them justice, and I'm a total believe in powdercoat these babies are SMOOTH

Should be getting plates for the SVX this week. I'll take the engine out of the Outback soon. Still haven't decided if I'm going to use the SVX ecu/harness or go EJ20 ECU + standalone.

I will probably get my BBS wheels refurbished when I need tires again. But that likely won't be for a few years.
