So, once again the gasket on the turbo oil drain is leaking... It took me 7-8 hours to do it last time and I'd really rather not do it again. However, it is leaking so it needs to be addressed.
No matter what I do, I have to fix the leak. I figured... while I'm in there, I might as well do a little modding to make it a little more my style.
I have come down to three options as a solution. All three options will replace the turbo drain gasket, the turbo drain tube (metal part), and the hose to the head. The options are in no specific order:
VF52 Build - aka Spec B+ (300whp/350wtq) - $1806 -
- $0 VF52 (Sitting on a shelf in the shop, 12000 miles, zero shaft play, great condition).
- $690 6StarSpeed Hybrid Ball Bearing Rebuild, Stage 1.5.
- $630 DeatscheWerks 850cc Injectors.
- $150 DeatscheWerks DW65c Fuel Pump.
- $126 GrimmSpeed EBCS.
- $160 BrenTuning E-Tune.
- $50 Replace Gasket/Metal Tube/Hose.
VF46 Build - aka Spool Me Rottin' (230whp/260wtq) - $836 -
- $500 6StarSpeed Performance Rebuild
*$150 Core Charge, and I'd have to see if they would be ok with VF40 for VF46.*
- $126 GrimmSpeed EBCS.
- $160 BrenTuning E-Tune.
- $50 Replace Gaskets/Metal Tube/Hose.
VF40 Build - aka K.I.S.S. (225whp/255wtq) - $710 or $550
- $500 6StarSpeed Performance Rebuild
*$125 Core Charge*
- $160 BrenTuning E-Tune.
*OR*
- $0 COBB Stage 2 93 Octane Tune.
- $50 Replace Gaskets/Metal Tube/Hose.
So those are the ideas I'm rolling around. Uncle Sam will be footing the bill with my tax return, so the money is not a total issue. My main concerns are:
- Daily Drive ability.
- Vehicle Longevity (lol I know, I know, speed reduces reliability)
Here is the data on my car as it stand now: (I know with my mods it could really use an E-Tune to make the most of what it is now)
- 2005 Legacy GT Limited.
- COBB V3 w/ Stage 2 93 Octane Tune
- 217000 on the Trans and Diffs.
- 40000 on the motor.
- New clutch with rebuilt motor.
- New OEM VF40 with motor rebuild.
- Stock intake, with K&N (previous owner had it installed) w/torque bulb removed.
- AVO TMIC.
- AVO Intercooler to intake hose.
- Catless up-pipe.
- SOON Catless down pipe, but currently High flow cat 3".
- Invidia 3" down pipe back exhaust (Q300, w/quad tips).
LOL I think that is it for the driveline.
So, let me know what you folks think. I would love to be able to add a 6MT, and then I wouldn't hesitate at the VF52 build. Thank you for your help in advance. : )
