need more headroom in a bh legacy...ideas?

    hello all,
I have a 2002 legacy l wagon, and with my 6'5", 330lb ass in the drivers seat, I have to have the seat all the way back and tilted to not hit the roof. this would be okay if I didn't have two oversized kids in forward-facing carseats in the backseat. ive searched the forums here, as well as subaruoutback.org looking for ideas on lower/ height adjustable seats, and most people that do swaps of seats do wrx/sti seats, which seem to sit taller. anyone got any ideas on modifications or other seats I can possibly swap in to make my life a little easier? im frustrated to the point of wanting to start looking for something bigger/ taller, but the wife is putting a kebosh on the idea, so I need to make this work. any help would be appreciated!

Pretty sure the v1-v3 WRX/STi seats sit a bit lower than the USDM WRX/STi seats

I have aftermarket Recaros in the Impreza that sit quite a bit lower than the factory seats. But I think it's the seat rails that came with them that make them so low.

good suggestions so far. I was told last night that I'm keeping the car wether I like it or not, so I think I'm going to see if a fabricator friend of mine can whip up some lowered brackets for the stock seat, or possibly work up some brackets to mount a pair of honda deal sol buckets that I have laying around into the car.

Yeah, it's the seat rails that contribute to the overall initial height of the seat. Putting Impreza seats into a Legacy results in a higher initial ride height, even with height adjustment set at LOW on the driver's seat.

If you can figure out how to produce a lowered/modified seat rail for the stock seats, I'm betting you'll be able to sell several sets. And if you can replicate them to lower Impreza/WRX seats in a Legacy, you'll have quite a decent sized market.

well, for now, I just rearranged the kids so my older one (who's in a high back booster) is now behind me, and tilted the seat up a slight bit so he's got a little more room to get in his seat. the fabrication part will probably happen eventually, but im going to need the car a couple days a week to drive to class, whereas right now its pretty much parked. if I make any more progress, ill post it up here though,,
