Why the new block? Is it so you have more of a guarantee that it won't go boom with all the new parts?

Wait wait wait... does this mean I can use a delicious rev A-C spec B Corazon grille?! I want to hug you right now. :smt050 Now I have options if this one doesn't turn out.
I'll be making ~480whp, built block is a necessity if I want it to survive longer than one pull, lol. Using new case halves so we could have the short block assembled ahead of time and reduce the car's downtime, plus the old one's still good so we are putting that in my buddy Ian's GR WRX.
Honeycomb mesh showed up, definitely going with that instead of the diamond gutter guard mesh. Kinda tempted to body match the outer part with the black mesh in the center... I'll see how it looks black first I guess.

Grille is coming along too... as you can see I went a completely different direction and skinned it with carbon fiber instead of painting it. Painted it black, brushed on resin and waited for it to tack up, and then my buddy Connor laid down the cloth and the first top coat. He has 100% more experience than me with carbon fiber since he has done this once before lol. After curing 24 hours, I'll trim the excess material, sand down any high spots, and add another coat. Rinse and repeat 4-5 times, then sand and clear coat. A quick wetsand and polish, POOF it'll be like glass.

More grille progress. I did another round of sanding today and laid down the third coat of epoxy. One or two more ought to do it, it's starting to level out

Ahhhh let's see... I said fuggit and ordered a Corazon grille for the car, should come from japanland at the end of the month. Bought an aluminum non-turbo legacy hood, dropped it off for paint tonight. Ordered a dash vent pod for my oil pressure gauge, few weeks til I'll see that. Bought a Legacy ABS module since the Spec B one wasn't compatible with my OB pump/harness. Already broke the 1000 mile mark, should be getting some boost soon. Kill mode tune on e85 will happen at 2k miles... should be close to 500whp.
Some photos of the car back in the wild:

Once my driveshaft shop rear axles and hubs come in I will be able to install extended studs up front and run spacers all around. A little exhaust tuck in the rear, and I'll be able to spin the coils down a bit more... hoping I can get it to sit like this photoshopped photo:

Got to enjoy that for a short while, but then a camshaft ate through a shim bucket + valve + spring + retainer. It sent metal through the oil pump, trashed it. Sent metal through the bearings, damaged them. Bottom end was rebuilt, heads fixed up, quick break in, and I'm back in boost. Topshelf took great care of me, even gave me a 2010 Legacy to drive while it was being fixed.
17 psi on 91 octane was enough to break into the 12s with a 12.95@105mph pass, and also enough to snap the shaft of a brand new spec B rear axle on the car's 6th launch. Temporarily ran a WRX r160 and my stock axles until tonight, when the R180 went back in with the delightfully massive Driveshaft Shop stage 5 axles and hubs. The axles are so huge, they interfere with the rear sway bar... so the sway bar's in my cargo area now. My tuner will be back next week, so Friday things are getting turned up. Dialing in more boost unicorns and powah on the pump gas map, then draining the tank and getting that kill mode E85 tune going.
I've been working at my buddy's high end detailing shop in addition to my own headlight shenanigans, finally got around to doing some much needed paint correction. Boss man coated my wheels with CQuartz Finest to help with ease of cleanup since my Hawk pads are on the dusty side, whole car will be coated after correcting more defects in the paint later. A one step removed around 90% of the defects this time around.
Anyway, here's some shiny things for y'all to look at.

Oh my lord that paint looks phenomenal! You've got skills to say the least. It must be a complete riot to drive with that kind of power and surprise people left and right. Awesome build!

Your car seems to be receiving quite a bit of love over on the "onlylegacys" Instagram page.
Is that a 05-07 spec debaged jdm corazon grill or the custom grill you made?
The paint and texture of the ride feel soo smooth & great!
Hands down the best looking OBXT I've seen!! Nice work!
Where did you get your aluminum scoopless hood?
And is that custom paint? Looks too good to believe it's stock, but i didn't see mention of paint in the thread.
Ran a best of 11.86 at 118mph last racing season, just squeezed into the 500+ club on E85. Power is still climbing at 7k, and with my trap speeds I'm running out of gear at the end... so the plan is to spin it up to 8k rpm this year. Has wider tires, a beefy driveshaft since I exploded/twisted/shattered/broke my 4EAT shaft last year, and all new bushings in back so the differential isn't soaking up torque and flopping around.
Had a buddy order it for me through his shop, don't remember the manufacturer. There's a lot of aftermarket steel 05-07 non turbo legacy hoods out there, I pretty much threw my wallet at him when he said he could get an aluminum one. It's a factory color.

Your Outback looks amazing with the performance to boot! Running high 11s is pretty awesome in that thing. Really love the way this all turned out. Sounds like you've unfortunately had quite a few issues with it, but it worked out in the end!
