BE/BH engine differences

Haven't been on here in a long time, so I had some questions regarding differences.
I did a quick wikipedia research and just wanted to confirm something.

I recently picked up a 2002 BE LGT 5MT with no motor, I place on putting in a new one.
Subaru being Subaru, seems like there were some differences mid way during the BE/BH production years.

00-01 BE/BH 5MT came with an EJ252
02-04 BE/BH 4EAT/5MT both came with an EJ251.

So if I were to swap in a replacement engine from an 00-01 EJ252, would that be able to direct swap or would I have to swap in wiring, timing gear, intake manifold, etc.? And obviously an EJ251 from a 02-04 would be direct swap in correct?

Found a couple of motors for sale in my area, just wanted to dot my I's and cross my t's before I drop the cash for a new motor. Thanks all.

hey hey
you may want to look on the plate that is attached to the drivers side front strut tower!
it should have an engine code on it that either has ej251 or ej252.
the engines share the same block but the intakes are different and the sensors are mounted in slightly different locations and the ecu is also different.

being a 2002 your car should be equipped with an ej251.
