    unicorn starting issues

    Okay, I am stumped.

My car is starting so intermittently that I have lost all trust in turning it off once it's on. It will turn and turn for 4-5sec without firing, sometimes it fires after 6-7sec, other times I get a record-scratching starter sound or just a click, maybe a backfire if conditions are right and sometimes it fires up before I have turned the key barely past the ACC position. Once it's on it runs and drives fine.

This just started happening a few months ago, since then I have swapped out:
    -coilpack
    -plugs&wires
    -camshaft sensor
    -crankshaft sensor
    -oil/filter
    -o2 sensor
    -speed sensor
    -new battery terminals/wiring

Something on that list seemed to fix it temporarily but guess what is back..

    I saw a P0300 once. 'Random cylinder misfire '
Otherwise its just an intermittent P1101 for the Neutral Switch for the AT/MT swap, no other codes.

Have you checked that you didn't jump a tooth on your timing belt? When you swapped to the 5mt did you make sure to install the timing belt guide above the crankshaft on the engine block?

Yes, timing belt guide is there and everything runs perfectly fine once the car finally starts... not sure if that may be a symptom of the timing jumping but this all seemed to happen randomly after two years of no problems with the swap

I'll have to check the timing tomorrow
