How do I tell if my motor is a phase 1 or phase 2?
1998 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Sedan 5MT
Which motor are you talking about. Do you have a pic?
If its your signature the dual cam ej25d is phase 1. 99 25d have a phase 2 shortblock but the heads/wiring its still phase 1
My 98 came with phase 2 shortblock but who knows, maybe the previous owner had it replaced

I don't have a picture now, sorry. I do know it's a DOHC EJ25, everything seems to be original/stock.
What is phase 1 and 2? Are there differences between the 2?
I was going through some forums and stumbled upon this, is this true?

all ej25D (dual cam) are phase 1 (found on 96-99 legacy and 98 forester/impreza rs)
and the rest of the dual cam ej25 after that are from the turbo models (04 forester xt up, 05 legacy 2.5gt up. 06 wrx up, sti's....... )
phase 2 2.5 non turbo are single cam (00+ legacy, 99+ impreza, 99+ forester....)
