Ok, so here is the story... we will start at the beginning... ('99 BK "L" 5MT)
Just so it is mentioned at the top, here is what I checked again today, after the problem:
-Fluid level (within limits). All fluids I could get to with out a lift or jack.
-Drive shafts all in their correct place (internal problems....eh?...)
-Nothing around the shafts either.
-Cable clutch was in showing normal position and tension (No massive slack, and not bow string tight anyway).
In July, while entering freeway (very weird one, almost 90 degree turn, and down to 35-45mph), and shifting from 2nd to 3rd, the transmission refused to go into 3rd. I coasted to the side of the road, and then tried to put it in any gear with no success. I pushed as hard as I felt safe doing. Well beyond normal pressure needed. So, while idling for less then 5 minutes and trying to get it into any gear (even reverse) I turned it off. Then back on. Trans worked 100% normal....
There were no further problems till this morning....
This morning (November), while getting ready to drive, the cars was started and idling in neutral, parking brake on, started to pull against he parking brake. It was a slow trans enguagement (over 3-4 seconds) followed by a grinding (like trying to put it into gear wihout the clutch). I then pressed the clutch and the grinding stopped (grinding for less than 1 second). It was again hard to get into gear, if not impossible. I pushed as hard as I felt safe... Finally got it into 1st, and moved the car forward slightly. I felt and heard a "chunk chunk chunk." Like a car with positrac. (Or a locked diff.) Then after a minute of having the car off, it went into gear fine....
If I remember correctly, the MY95-ish trans had a center or front diff recall. It might have been 4EAT, or corrected before my year. (I know they "say" there are not recalls on my car as of now...) I drove a car that had this defect, and my car "occationally" does this during slow, tight cornering (turning into parking lot). So this morning, after the problem, the car did not to this.... It turned smooth and normal...
I am TOTALLY sure that there is going to need to be a major transmission rebuild in my near future. I am just going to start saving and preping now. Do you folks have any idea what this might be? I was thinking Center or front differential.
