I asked him how much it would be to ship to a business address in my zipcode, he said $55 via DHL including insurance... Not bad. $395 shipped if I don't get clear coat.

Yes, and they will also have reinforcements that you won't need to use hood pins, that's great news too.

Send him an email, I'm willing to bet that he can send you a hood without the holes being drilled. Click the link on the first post, his email is on there. The prices listed are in Canadian bucks, so it's pretty cheap, considering shipping is cheap too.

I dropped off my hood to Vince this Saturday, we should start seeing the outcomes and pictures of all this stuff shortly... I must say though, the quality of the stuff I saw coming out of the shop was amazing. I think everyone who jumped on this will be extremely happy. He answered a couple of my questions and now I see why it doesn't need hood pins for daily driving. They use a 2 piece layout, Outer skin and frame. The frame is laid up with material and layered to provide strength. He custom makes the hood latch hoops and it's molded into the framing, so it's integral to the structure and not an add on.

Another thing that adds strengthy above and beyond the layup of the framing, is the use of steel backing for the mounting points. Where the hinges bolt onto the hood, it's actually a steel piece in there that's been tapped to the correct thread pitch and diameter, and the piece is molded into the framing as part of the structure, there's no chance for that to come apart. While I was there he showed me a couple of parts off a corvette, he's molded up an airbox for a prominent (not allowed to say) aftermarket producer for Corvette parts, this airbox replaces the stock unit, but is extremely light. The whole assembly felt like it weighed only 1lb.. Amazing quality stuff.. Can't wait to get my hood, I may just get change mine to clear coated, it'll be a shame to hide all that hard work.. We'll see.. LOL

Legacy hood guys here's an update:

hood has been cleaned up and now I'm doing the body work on it to make sure it's smooth and clean. You guys are going to poop yourselves when you feel the weight difference!"

I've been working on the mould for a few weeks now. I'm looking to have the first piece produced by the end of next week. Whenever a fresh new mould is made the first couple parts have to help break it in. From there its regular production.

I'm patiently waiting myself; I just figure there's no point in having an new hood on the car when the roads are still full of leftover winter chemicals and junk. It's a one-off deal and I've seen some of his stuff at the TSC meets, I don't think anyone will be disappointed.

started on install on the weekend, not impressed with quality and fitment issues, especially after all his touting about a good quality product.

I think I got the quicky thrown together version of the hood because I complained once after five months of waiting.
I have e-mailed him once, Monday, with my concerns, no reply. Maybe I'll hear something before the end of the week.

nahh my buddy with a 00' BE GT asked me to deal with all the leg work so its just easier saying I then my buddy. I have Cajuals CarbonFX hood. Vince wont make me anything unless I get 5+ orders and no one on SLi will fork out the coin. I have 3 guys + me who want a BD trunk but who knows if there talkers..

6 Months later, I finally received the my hood. Though I'm happy with the quality of the hood based on the price paid, I'm not happy with the lack of communications or the length of time, or the deferred promises. This is almost the case of Buyer Beware, I believe if I weren't local to VKInnovations, it would have taken a lot longer than it already took.

The Grill mount area is weak, yes. It needs reinforcement, I made mine work, but I also know how to work with resin and glass to reinforce the areas that are weak.

how could it be 1/2in short i took the measurements for him off my hood. i know how to work with resin also. im getting the hood installed by my boody guy anyways. im half tempted to just get it sent to me. haveing paied and waited 6month this SOB better be perfect.

That's a good idea, just get him to send it to you and close the books, the hood is easy to install actually, just 4 bolts and an adjustment of the hood latch mechanism, simple as pie, no need for a body guy. Oh the bolts he uses for the hood latch are 6mm bolts, instead of the 10mm OEM size.

Therein lies my biggest disappointment: if I had received the hood within a reasonable time, I may not have felt so bitter about the "quality" of the hood. Unfortunately, as I have been listening to 5mos of excuses regarding "quality", I expected a hood that was worked on for an amount of "quality time"... :smt011

I was just speaking with Vince, it seems that there was a mixup with the clear coat used on the hoods giving a very bad finish.

He has insists that anyone who has recieved a hood and is unhappy should contact him for a replacement, his words not mine.

The new batch has a much better surface finish (the kind I was expecting) and the kind of finish worth waiting 6 months for.

I have taken pics of the one he brought me ( i phone pics) but i think they show the quality of the new hoods.

Just got off the phone with Vince, and he explained a lot. Including the concerns I have with the final product.
It looks like I'm taking a trip to Hamilton to get things resolved as soon as he can figure out the logistics of keeping my travel minimal.

For the guys who are left on this list of people who haven't received a hood yet, it sounds like you're getting the better product out of the deal, as the first deliveries are the ones working out the issues.

I'm obviously frustrated with the process and airing that out here, on this forum. I'm hoping the issues are resolved and will look forward to retracting my negative statements against VK; until then, I'll try to absorb the maturity of the other members on this board showing a 'wait and see' attitude in judgement...

The only thing that concerns me as of 4-5 days ago is the "Vendors Classified" for VK.. hes not in there anymore but.. His threads are visable via search.. I don't know what to make of this I am just crossing my fingers.

Anyway you slice it VK's hood still looks much better then the VIS unit thats available through ebay.

I don't think Vince is shady at all, otherwise we'd never see him again or his name would change every other month. He's just a chronic procrastinator due to amount of work he takes on.
I signed on with Vince with the intention of not getting a cheap product, hence the frustration at the finish.

And yes, that VIS stuff for the BE/BH has to be the goofiest looking stuff I've ever seen, especially for the price...

I also called him a couple of months ago to redo the grill mounting points and clean up of other stuff, so that makes 2 of us with a re-do. Not the best guy to deal with (understatement)

Just my 2 cents worth but it sounds like this vk inovations is just a side job for him. either hes renting space at another company's garage ie the hole building an air plane thing. or its a side job for him when hes not doing his main job. if this was the case he should have mention that along time ago in his add's( ie hey guys i do this in my spare time or i do this in my garrage Etc.) not lead us to belive it his full time job and he sits around all day doing R&D and actually producing parts/testing/fitting/shipping.

Its been almost a YEAR since the group buy happened. I went to the subaru meet on Sunday and got a good look at Andy's hood. The quality is very nice and so is the weave but really Vince, how can you keep 2 people on the back burner for so long. Why must you keep procrastinating, This is email #30 from me. Its a little more then scuffing it and re clearing the hood Chuck. The first time it wasn't the correct one we used so we have to take it all done to close to the carbon as possible then build back the layers 1 by 1 from there with wet sanding in between each coat. That's why the hoods I make last as long as they do over everyone else's cuz I make sure its done once.

So when its 100% done and ready I will email you and we can go from there for meeting up.

Sorry for delaying on the last leg here but its crucial its done right by us and I'm not going to cut corners on you.

I've completely given up on this d!kk; everytime I text or call, I hear the same bullcrap excuses over and over again. It's no consolation that I've actually received a hood from him after all the pompous blowing he spouted about taking time to make quality product, blah,blah,blah...

It's garbage: wrong size hood hook, wrong size hood nuts and they're misaligned, weird colour shading at the scoop, epoxy cover up at the corners, so on and so on....

Reading this thread and reviewing the texts he keeps sending you fuels my anger on you're situation. I feel bad that you guys are getting the runaround from him, I feel bad that you don't have a hood yet, but it really pisses me off how he keeps touting the same excuses and has the balls to claim he makes a quality product.

By the way, ya, I'm pissed and I gave up. I haven't bothered trying to contact him for the last three months because I keep getting the same responses that include "LOL, haha" and my personal favourite, "how do you expect me to get anything done if I'm responding to texts all the time..."

I haven't been posting up because he thinks that I'm trashing him on this board and likes to repeat what I write here within our conversations.

So here is some trash: the promises are false, the quality is crap; you're either disappointed when you have the hood and have to somehow explain the piece of sh!! to people who ask about it, or you feel taken advantage of because you just got ripped off so he can make the payments on his Forester..

Honesty, Integrity, and Commitment are values lost on this excuse for a human. If you can figure out a way to make him pony up, I'll back you with whatever info I have.

Get a consultation from a lawer. Print up all texts/emails that you two had, any purchase receipts, and get location of the guy. the lawer should do the rest. Take him for as much as you can. Vince does not make the hood.

A guy named Mark Brunt at CF Technologies Inc. makes all the CF parts for Vince.

Apparently Mark says that Vince is a flake and he understands why I am angry and is ready to fully help me get the hoods.

Current Status:
1 hood is cleared (final clear went on today)
1 hood is not... not sure if its a clear issue or made entirely?

Fabrication Issues:

I spoke to Mark and told him about the issues the other members "ntdo" / "JBCLEGACY" / "JoeT" had with their hoods.

Mark said that he has taken care of:
Latch - Was 8mm now at 6mm
Hinges - 6mm so that there is more play to line the hood up .. hardware provided
Grill... iffy..

...
So Mark said middle of next week everything should be ready.. he stressed the fact that he wants me to deal with him and not Vince anymore.

UPDATE!

Ok..... so I called Mark @ CF Tec and spoke to him about a few things..

1) He asked if I can come on Thursday after work to pickup the hoods.
2) I confirmed that I am picking up 2 hoods. He said "Yup two hoods cleared ready to go"
3) He said don't bother calling Vince anymore just to deal with him for anything. He will bother Vince for funds not us.
4) He asked for me to give him the other half of the balance for my hood.
5) I asked about a shipping refund for Brandons hood. He said he "can" do it but he would rather ship to Washington through his couriers.
6) I said I will talk to Brandon but at the moment we just want possession of the hoods.

In the end of the conversation Mark really did try to help me out in every way possible. He stands by his product and his word.

So to end this update off with a interesting note.. I asked Mark about creating C/F products for me dash, panels, etc.. He said he really cant get involved but if I need another BE hood made he has no problem pulling out his mold.. Thats a little iffy... in a way but meh this thread will hit 9 pages soon.

UPDATE!

Its over... done with.. :smt021 Took over a year and some annoying phone calls but Bataru "Jon" finally got his hood. And Brandon, I know your not going to like this but Mark and I agreed he will ship your hood via. DHL since I could not even come close to proper shipping rate.

Heres the breakdown.

1) Arrived @ CF Tec

2) Met Mark and he showed me both hoods. Jon & Brandons. BOTH are in the same condition as I am going to list below.
--> Brandon, the hood is going to be properly packed in proper shipping cartons. He showed me the packing material and your hood but my phone didn't take the best pic [blurry]

3) Mounted the hood to Jon's car
--> It fits. NOTE: This is not really an issue but just making note Underhood Clear Coated. (Jon didn't pay for underside clear but hey were not going to argue.

4) Construction:
Outer shell:
-DURAFLEX material laid first
-Carbon Fiber weave 1 or 2 layers I cant remember what Mark said
-2-3 layers of clear coat
-No washer nozzle & washer fluid hose clip cut outs [not a big deal...]
-Front grille mounts are not drilled or fitted. Similar to "C-Mod" grilles. Just flat fibreglass.

Inner shell:
-1-2 layers of fibreglass skeleton
-1 layer Gel Coat
-1 layer of clear coat
-No hood prop cut out [not a big deal...]

Hinge mounts:
-10mm bolts that work.. but still not stock size.

Latch:
-Works. 4x Rivets. Solid!


5) Issues:
--Build quality = 6.5/10 maybe 7/10
--Clear coat is sloppy, a few runs by the scoop[going to respray next summer]
--No rolled edges.. Similar build quality like the eBay companies "Carbon Creations" & "C-Mod"
--Iffy grille mount location.. I am crossing my fingers its just a simple drill and bolt.
--The way the hinge mounts are affixed does not line up to stock specs. [Hinges have to be slotted via dremel]
--Poor touch-ups.. Here and there you can see what looks to be like black air brushing around the edges and scoop
--Scoop is carbon on the outside.. inside, its just raw painted fibreglass....
--The scoop is carbon but as the carbon flows from the vent around to the top of the hood its a bit dark similar to the airbrushing described above.

6) Overall Opinion:
-Mark is a very nice guy.
-Mark is willing to deal with all Vince's bullshit and fuck-ups.
-Mark is willing to deal with us and still be respectful unlike Vince.
-For $450 CAD Jon's not really complaining..
-IMHO this is a decent hood, sure its nothing special but compared to $800 VIS hoods I'd rather go with CF-Tec..

I suggest that you go to Mark directly and deal with any issue you have. The information is located 2-3 posts above and Mark stands by his product. Jon & I personally don't care about the issues since I know I can deal with them in the summer.

Oh! I forgot to mention.. Since this is a JDM B4 style hood of some sort I don't remember what JoeT gave Vince orginialy., Anyway's Jon's B4/RSK Headlights w/ HID's fit perfectly now. No gaps between the side and top of the hood / headlight. Although there is a slight gap between the bumper/hood (less then an inch)
