im about to do this next weekend. im picking up the belt, tensioner, and crank seal at the dealer this weekend.

i was planning on doing the job according to the scoobymods link.
http://www.scoobymods.com/my01_rs_timin ... tml?t=3837 (http://www.scoobymods.com/my01_rs_timing_belt-t3837.html?t=3837)

anything ts missing, or any tips to make this easier? its an 02 legacy gt automatic. im just worried about being able to do it in a day, as its our family car and the only one that can it the car seat well.

also, im assuming the crank gear needs to come off to do the crank seal. anyone have a how-to on that one?

thanks

The crank gear SHOULD just slide off once the timing belt is off of the motor. Carefully pry the old seal out, lube up a new one, and install it using a seal installer or a big socket that fits the diameter of the seal.

As for belt tips:

If you have a 2 cam like in the walkthough you posted it's pretty easy. If you have a 4 cam (like me) it takes some extra care to make sure you get everything lined up right, especially when it comes to rotating the left cams to the correct position when putting the belt back on.

Tip that Alldata mentions that works GREAT: Take off the idler on the right side (left if you're looking down at the motor from in front of the car) of the motor to remove the belt, and install this pulley LAST after the belt is on and lined up.

far as i know, its a single cam. it looks that way in the factory service manual, at least.

ill have to rmember yanking the idler pulley.

and hopefully the gear comes off easily. unlike the honda i just did....

Get a new waterpump. Friend just had one fail because he reused the old one because it looked fine. It did last another 15k, but now a $70 part became a $300 repair.
