1990 Speedo Cable

Hey guys, had a quick search but didn't find anything too extensive on this topic.

Am looking at buying a legacy and apparently the only thing wrong is the speedo. I assume it's the cable has broken. Anyone have other thoughts on what it could be?

I have replaced a speedo cable on a 1988 ford laser, but wanted to know if that qualifys me to do it on this 1990 auto 4wd.
How long would this take a professional mechanic on average?
Will I be able to get into remove the cable from the transmission without dropping anything out?
Can anyone provide pictures of where it enters the body of the car behind the engine and where it enters the transmission.

From what I recall, the speedo cable replacement requires removing the odo cluster, and disconnecting it from the trans end, and then installing the new one. I don't think it takes very long, maybe 2hours providing none of the 20 year old plastic bits break?

Ditto. It's an relatively easy job, the cable unscrews from both the gauge cluster and tranny. On your car if the odometer isn't running, but the tach is, then it's probably the gauge cluster gone bad.
