subaru xt6?

ive never heard of this before im lookin for a scraper that i can use on my paper route and found a xt6 is it any good? reliable? and is it awd? i dont want to keep beeting up this car and i want awd and this car is cheap only 1000 adn low miles

no pics i callde the guy sounded old said he was original owner and it has low miles almost 80,000 and was grage kept no dents or anything original paint and the seats are like new but ive never heard of this car i wonder if they have problems, i found a pic on google to see wat it looked like its kinda ugly but i dont care im driving it at night

Ummm... XT6... Well, I think they were available 4X4. They had a funky transfer case, so they were FWD, and you could shift them into 4X4, similar to older Ford, Chevy, Toyota, etc. trucks.

Ugly? Wow. They have the lowest coefficient of drag of any Subaru ever made, ever. EVAR.

I guess they were kinda ugly. They did have a funky ass steering wheel too, it was like 90 degrees from where it normally would have been.

The XT6 obviously has a 6 cylinder, 2.7 liter NA motor.

Ooooooh, wait a second, hold the phones... I recall they had some kind of super advanced AWD system in some of them, not sure if it was the XT6, or the XT Turbo (they had the same body with a 1.8 turbo). It had a funky display, that showed which wheels were getting power, or the lockup of the center diff, or rear diff, or something. It's been so damn long since I ever was in one...

Blah. Either way, I think they came with some options for transmissions, whatever.

Post pics if you get it. Also, maintain the power steering, the one I almost bought had a shit power steering pump.

oh that thing. not even close to a xt turbo. that is the ugliest subaru ever mad, but if it runs and drives i would get it for maybe 800.

i now this car is so ugly but i want awd and a reliable car its only for my paper route i dont want to ruin this car ive already been threw like 6 cars on my route and i diont want to use my good car, i drive on dirt roadds and and in the middle of no where with no cops or cars in sight nothing but corn fields for miles lol

The XT-6 wasn't a bad car. Sure, it looked questionable, but what Subaru doesn't. Like Sarra said, it's got a 2.7 liter flat six. It's probably 4wd, with the selectable 2sp transfercase (Hi/Lo trans). It's a damn good set up. Check for leakage around the diff and trans and if it is 4wd, make sure it works. Don't just ask the guy, shift it into 4wheel Lo and drive around.

I think they're sweet! I would drive one. Like everyone else said, check the 4wd and you're good to go. They're getting pretty rare, especially in decent condition. Good luck!

drove it today drove nice steering wheel was odd but i can get used to it, 4 wheel drive works needs new tires though but its all good i made an offer of 800 he said he will think about it and give me a call back, i hope he says yeah, does any one now wat kind of mpg it gets? he didnt reallly now, oh and i forgot to take pics but it was already dark by the time i got there but it was nice

i found one but it was wrecked in the front but the air filter was pushed in a little bit im not sure i want to trust it, its only 600 obo though, i found this for 800 and it has low miles and perfect condition

Carefull with the Full time 4WD XT-6(no hi or low but they did have a diff lock switch I believe). They had the electronic self-leveling air suspension that ALWAYS failed eventually. The air struts would start leaking, then the pump would constantly be running to try and keep it filled. Blah. And, again, IIRC, the suspension was sort of half legacy/half GL/Loyale, so there was no swapping of regular suspension in place of the air suspension as you could with the old GL-10's that had the also miserable air suspension. There were FWD XT-6s, but what good would that be?

Maybe the XT guys figured something else out by now, but back when I had mine(mid 90's), there were NO suspension options.

Also has some funky power steering system that only used some special Subaru fluid. Failure=$$$

And I believe the 2.7 was an EA motor which means oil leaks everywhere.

For a route beater, I would stay way clear of an XT-6. Look for a high milage AWD Legacy or Impreza. You will be much happier.

Mileage? I can get close to 30 with the AWD 5 speed. My friend averaged over 30 around town with his FWD 5 spd.

XT/XT6's didn't have the high/low 4wd. XT's had FWD,PB 4WD, and the turbo's had AWD. For XT6's they were either FWD or AWD similiar trans to the early leg's. The AWD 5 speed XT6's do have a diff lock switch.

The air susp is a problem, but there are options out there to get rid of the air without too much cost.

The PS is different, but in most cases the electric pump can be fixed with $5 worth of brushes. And for as often as you need it, the $20 quart of fluid is no big deal.

If the car is in good shape with no rust, please don't destroy it... There are some of us that love these cars.

I would stay far far away from this car for a mail route. You do realize there are a ton of Legacy mailcars flosting around right? Complete with right hand drive. Much better suited to that type of thing.

+1 on staying away from it for a mail route.. you will probably end up having to hunt down all sorts of weird antiquated parts and such when shit breaks..
