tire wear

Soooo...while on the road in some backwoods area I lost a tire, and needing to drive a looooong way yet, (not wanting to use the donut) I bought a single snow tire (only size the shop had) and finished the trip.
The new tire is the same size as the others, but snow treads and less worn....can I buy another snow tire, and go with just 2? and should I put them on the front or the back?

you'll need a set of four if you have an awd subie. the different tire sizes will destroy a diff after a bit of driving, if you have a not very common fwd put the snows on the front where you'll need them.
