Wats up guys. this is the first time im being apart of Sl-i.net but when i used to have my 1998 LGT i was on nasioc for a bit. i only owned my leggy for about like 2 months so i didnt really get much out of it. heres a couple pictures of what it looked like except i took the gt wheels off and painted them black and removed the gt spoiler, didnt get to do much to it except have some fun time in my school parking lot during one of the many snowstorms last year :smt004

i began wanting something more lightweight (with the hopes of building a boosted autox weekend driver) so i traded it for a 1992 mazda miata thats now needing an engine rebuild (in process, schools taking up too much time to work on my 1.6)

i do like the miata, but i dont like boston winter. right now i have 16 inch asa js1 rims with mixed summer tires on the wheels so its not going to work great in snow, and i need to get around. i do have the performance itch and i knew i needed a new car that id keep, something i'd daily drive, and hopefully boost comfortable levels (boosted awd daily driver.) i was on nasioc long enough to learn that the ej25 is not a great motor for boost because of its open deck block so i figured maybe the ej22 would be a better setup for me, (possibly getting ej25 heads with a mild t25 turbo setup in the process, i have a stock sr20det turbo in my dad's garage.)

so i began looking for legacy gt's, where im at right now. i've been searching the local craigslist (boston) and only turned up with this car so far:

http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/cto/1480523408.html

its no GT, but with a couple mods to the exterior (gt or jdm front bumper with diy lip, koito fogs, jdm outer tails, gc8 tcsportline strut bar, gc8 performance springs and shocks, etc) good gunmetal paint, low boost turbo setup and free flowing exhaust, it would be a real nice daily driver. im not trying to go all out with it though since i dont have sti swap money at the moment and im not trying to catch any exhaust level tickets again.

but the good thing about that car is, its relatively close, okay mileage, clean title, it has the ej22, its 5 speed, roof rack, no dents, etc. there wouldnt be much for me to do to it except routine maintenance for right now until i can save the pennies for goodies.

so thanks for the time, hopefully i can learn a few things here as i have at nasioc. for now, im going to be stalking the classifieds :smt002

Welcome, and true the EJ25 can have head gasket problems, it's not as bad as people think. As for boostin check out impreza_GC8's build http://mysubarus.weebly.com/1997-legacy-outback.html

As for the EJ22 it can have problems as well. The NA EJ22 is an open deck design, it's different from the closed deck EJ22T.

Angry WRX owners that ignore you cause you have a better car then them... Won't see that here. Although, most of them can be helpful.

Welcome... er... back? :smt017

Where in Mass are you located?

i'm actually in the process of disassembling a ej22 n/a motor in my engines class, and did notice how it was an open deck, just didnt put two and two together until you said it :smt005 but will the turbo ej22 block fit with the na ej22 heads? just by looking at the block i can tell the na ej22 will fit the ej25 heads.

Also, would you guys favor boosting the ej25 n/a or the ej22 n/a? i havent heard much bad things about boosting the ej22 but now that i figured out its open deck, is this really a big problem?

at the most id really like to boost 10psi max. just daily driven and maybe some weekend autocross in the future.

By the way, i also have found a gc8 impreza 2.5 awd 5speed on craigslist and he may be interested in a trade with my car, havent got the email back yet but ill give him a call today and see wats up with that. id be a traitor going back to those snobby impreza owners over at nasioc though :P

thanks guys.

If you want boost don't forget you can just buy a WRX.

While some people have had success boosting the NA motors, the higher compression ratio and design of the block just isn't favorable to boosting. I have a boosted Legacy but I swapped out the motor for an STi block with lower compression ratio.
