There was a rattling noise coming from my engine so I took the timing cover off and found that the crankshaft pulley was vibrating. How do I tighten it/reset the timing?

The crankshaft pulley doesn't affect the timing - do you think the timing is now off for some reason? Just to clarify, the crankshaft pulley is not under the timing belt cover, it's just under a set of belt covers at the very front of the engine. The timing belt and covers are located behind the crankshaft pulley.

The crankshaft pulley attaches itself to the crankshaft via that one big bolt on the end, and stays in place with a woodruff key. Tightening that one requires a socket (don't remember the size) - easiest way is to park the car in 5th gear and tighten it.

22mm socket IIRC.

Simply put it in 5th with the e-brake on and tighten the dog shit out of it.

If it's vibrating, it may actually have stripped the key. That's a bad thing.

22mm is correct, torque to about 120-130 lbs/ft 5th gear with parking brake or friend in car on the brakes

Yes it is. My old Impreza had done that. The biggest pain of it is that the key also holds the timing belt sprocket. Getting the pulley off was easy, but the key was borked and didn't want to come out. Sproket didn't want to come off either. I think I eventually got the key out, then took the sprocket off and replaced key, pulley and sproket along with the timiming belt since I had it off and didn't know when it had been replaced last.

Torque it higher than that!

Every year the Factory torque spec for that bolt increases and increases.

Seriously, crank the dogshit out of it.
