hey on my brothers 2007 2.5i Impreza, mfg in 2006, when you push the clutch in the rpms drop way down like to 250 rpms, and then it pops back up to around 500-750 rpms.
also will cause the car to stall sometimes.
i think it has done it since he bought it new in December of '06. the car has over 72k on it now.
has anyone run into this problem before on a Subaru specifically?
i was told by one shop it might need a ECU reflash.
it is the 5-speed i don't really have any repair history on it, since my bro lives in seattle, i have their car while they have my outback, while some repairs were being made on the Impreza. i have to say i think i got a good deal on the work i had done, $654 for a wheel bearing, spindle and front rotors and pads. i still have to go and get an alignment on Friday.
any info would be great, i don't really want to go to NASIOC since i heard they are kind of A-Holes

That kind of issue really should have been handled by the dealer when the car was new... kinda waited a bit long on that one huh?

I'm sure jey or someone more au fait with transmission stuff will be along shortly. I have no easy answers except to trace the clutch mechanism to see how pushing the clutch pedal activates things like solenoids, idle speed sensors etc.

it does have a Subaru extended warranty till 100k i think, but a $100 deductible i don't think that the clutch would be included, i am going to look at the TSBs for the car and see if i come across something.

i popped the hood and listened to the motor when it was in neutral.
when the rpms drop and then it revs kick back up the fans turn on for a few seconds then shut off. they keep doing that.
also when it was idling in neutral it the rpms were at about 500 rpms when it stayed constant. also no check engine light has come on.
i will go to a auto parts store to scan it myself to see if there is anything that has popped up.
