time for a new set of tires, and i picked up a set of jic coilovers (gotta get rebuilt, anyone know of a place that does it?), so time to get low. fenders are rolled a little in the rear, never had a prob in the front when i had 225/45/18s, so i should be fine, i'll roll them if necessary.

225/50/15s are closer to the correct speedo reading, but 45's sidewalls look better, I'll prolly go w/ the 50s (like 1.4% off at 60mph or sumthin).

Have any of you guys ran 225's on the stock 15s? i like how 225 looks on BD's, and dont wanna go smaller.

ARE THEY TOO WIDE TO FIT THE RIM?

i have a set painted gold, looks real jdm lol

i know sumone on here already knows.

A 225 width tire will "bubble out" slightly on a 6.5" wide OEM 16" WRX rim, I've seen it for myself. A 7" rim is the narrowest that I would comfortably put a 225 width tire. Once you make a tire "bubble out" like that you make it prone to tire squirm which makes it less effective at maintaining a stable contact patch under hard cornering when compared to a tire with a narrower but "more proper" width.

if the rim is 6" wide, go no wider than 215.

You can't ignore the sidewall height either, the taller the sidewall the fatter the tire you can run for a give wheel width. 225/50 is probably at the limit of a 15x6 wheel but 225/45 is going to make your tire installer curse.

On the other end of the spectrum the GMC van I drove had a 15x6.5 wheel and the stock tire size is 235/75/15, totally fine because of the ridiculous 75 series sidewall.

stock 00-04 outbacks use 16x6.5 rims with 225/60 tires

the taller the sidewall, the more "play" you have with how wide you can go for a certain width rim. You need a taller sidewall anyway for your 15" wheels, a 215/60/15 or 215/55/15 would be a better choice. The 60 is closer to the stock tire size, but the 55 is slightly better for acceleration (shorter effective gearing).

damn, thanks guys. 225s look sick on bd/bgs from the front/rear, but, i guess 215s not that bad. looks like they'll be winter wheels w/ 215s. maybe i can find sum steal of the century on sum tru jdm aftermarket wheels for summertime. so a 7.5 rim would be my best bet w/ that tire width. anyone have pics of 16s w/ coilovers and/or 17's w/ coilovers? i wanna get low, but not stupid low, sumthin i can still have sum fun w/ :smt029

anyone know if any companies make a 15 X 7.5 rim? that would work rite?

if you're using these for winter then you wanter narrower tires anyway. Wide tires on a slippery surface = no control. Think of an iceskater.
