do i need a relay? its an option for an extra 15 bucks not sure if i need it or not?

Are you talking about the extra relay harness that draws power directly from the battery? The only HID setup I've ever used had it and I thought it was a good idea because it pulled constant power from the battery instead of the headlight circuit. However if you have a newer vehicle with a decent charging system and are using a 35W HID kit (instead of a 55W kit) then I think you can opt out of the relay with no issues.
