I think it's because it's the first time it's been down in the 20's so.. I went to check my oil today and went to close the hood and it popped back up, long story short after about 7 min of trying and then about a min of trying to clean a little bit of the gunk from the latch. I thought the hood was closed but it popped back up on the highway so i got off and went to the park and finally the hood locked down.

would some white lithium grease help here?

cant hurt to try. I dont see why the weather wasn't an issue in the matter. It was arctic in greenwich today!

Check and spray some silicone grease on the hood latch cable itself. Sometimes it get stuck in placed, pulling the cable to open.

I've had to take some big pliers to the part of the latch that is mounted to the hood. Sometimes things just shift a little bit.

here's a pro mechanic tip I learned while I interned at a garage. Hit the latch mechanism with PB blaster, liberally soaking every part and use a big flat head screwdriver to push down on the latch while spraying it. Wipe as much old gunk off with a clean rag as possible. Then, use some white lithium grease on the mechanism, while activating the latch and the cable. Don't spray too much, just enough.
