View Full Version : STI/WRX seats into 04 BH = Higher? Lower?

So as it stands right now, I barely fit into my legacy. I'm 6'4 and this I make it look like a clown car when I'm driving, legs pressed up against the steering wheel and head up near the roof. In the future I'd like to track down some seats with nicer bolstering, but while cruising the forums I have gotten some confusing/conflicting reports for what happens when you swap in other models seats so I'm hoping for a straight answer here. 1) If I swap in STI or WRX seats, will I sit higher, lower or the same and 2) if higher/the same, what needs to be done to drop it down? 3) Is it possible to drop my current seats in the meantime?

Your answer is two threads down in this same technical section. Here is a link:

HFSDevil - right model but just a pic, nothing empirical or even anecdotal
Disturbed_beast - will raise a first gen
Scottzg - he's monstrous, wrong model, fits with 1st gen
gator gt - rise in 2nd gen
Trust me, I looked there. None of those posts directly answer any of my questions. I don't know if the higher seat trend will continue with the BE/BH or not, and it doesn't have anyone saying they've dropped their seats one way or another, wrx or original. All it says is that 1st and second gens will sit higher with wrx seats. I have plenty of mechanical aptitude and access to friends and tools but I've never messed with seats before, especially my power driver's seat, so I'm looking for somebody who knows from theory or personal experience what exactly rearranging the seat frame/rails/whatever would entail.

I had 04 Sti front seats in my Baja Turbo, which is the same floorpan as the BE/BH Legacy. Same seats too stock.
Bolt-on Fitment, you just have to swap seat belt buckles from your stock seats. The seats themselves are slightly narrower, so its easier to drop crap between seat and center console. The seats are 'thicker' in the butt area than the BE/BH seats by 1.5-2 inches with the STI seat in the Lowest Possible Setting. I'm 5'11" and my hair would rub the cieling but my head wasn't crunched up there or anything. Racing with a helmet was a real tight squeeze though. If you're 5'11" or less, shouldn't be a problem. Edit: I had a sunroof, without it my head would've had a lot more space.
This is not theory, this is exactly what I had in the car.

Had em in my BD legacy too.

you get raised 1-2inches for most OEM WRX/STI seats. I had 02-03 wrx seats in mine. The height adjustment only drops the back of the seat cushion, you can get it back down to around stock height. There's really no way to lower the OEM seats, the rails are integrated into the cushion and the cushion has a metal plate underneath. If you want to go lower, you'll need to go aftermarket seats.

Or cut/reweld the rails. I got pics, pm me if you're interested.

I have had 05 WRX seats in my Impreza and Legacy; you sit about an inch higher but the driver's seat has a height adjustable lever so you can get it back to about the stock height but your passenger seat is not.
