Auto tranny removal

I just bought a bunch of parts for my BD but the problem is they are mostly intact in the back of my truck! I need to get the transmission seperated from the engine to be able to unload it, but I can`t move it around very easily, and I need to know how many bolts I am looking for.

The starter is removed, both bottom nuts are removed. Looks like there could be one broken bolt on each side, or are those dowels?

Should be 6(I think) bolts and two nuts on studs on the bottom. Make sure your undoing the trans to motor and not the trans/front diff bolts

Also, don't forget the tq converter bolts.

Got'er! Seems like there aren't enough bolts holding it together! Though I am used to Dodge.

The problem as the two dowels were stuck, but everything is apart now!

Can these be turned into rear wheel drive as easily as I think? The axles were held in by circlips, but is there a roll pin that holds another peice?

I searched for rear wheel drive, but the engine won't let you do something so silly.

Are automatic axles the same for the 5 speed? Are the axles left/right, or can they be used on either side?

hey , i have a 1992 legacy turbo , but its an auto, id like that to not be anymore
i kno how to drive cars, not assemble and dissasemble them , i really love my car and dont want to mess anything up,
does anybody kno what i should do , and how to go about it
i really want to do this so any help is appreciated

thats kinda a tough position to be in. you could learn to do a trans swap. (they arnt to bad)
or you could try to find a 5speed legacy turbo. good luck with that. ive only seen one manual Leg-turbo.

ya i was afraid of that. ya i have only seen one other legacy turbo with a stick , kinda depressing actually
and im not made of money so a trans swap would be kinda crucial.
i just was curious as to what i needed to do, i plan on this car being the project for awhile. fixed up the ninja 250 now i just wanted to have a blast with this car. dont get me wrong its a trip as is.

Well i'll agree the swaps aren't as bad as some say. For your year a trans out of a newer subie wldnt matter but i wouldn't go too new with it. Subaru has always made them with the same bell housing pattern. however the wiring is what may get you. I just did a swap in my 97 lsi and i had to get the drive shaft, Computer for the 2.5 i put in, the ends for the wiring on the trans, trans support, and the diff. I spent a total of $400.00 , 90.00 for the trans, 200.00 for the motor, and the rest was the smaller items, But my biggest help was that i went to a you pull it bone yard for the smaller stuff. waaaay cheeper. There isn't much to it. If you do manage to do it... i'd reccomend that you put a performance clutch in it due to the fact that you have a NASTY motor on your hands. I wouldn't risk burning up the clutch with all that torque.

first step is to find all the compatable parts that will be needed. this will probably include flywheel, clutch pedal, master
and slave cylinders, and rear differential from the donor. youll prolly want to put a new clutch plate in so you dont have to
pull the trany in 500 miles.
also you will wanna go to the subaru dealer and ask to make copys of the wiring diagrams for your car and the donor car
from their factory repair manuals. plus make copys of the Trans mission removal and installation section. ive never had a
dealer tell me i wasnt allowed to make copys they are usually always really helpful. that should walk you thru taking the transmission out and installing it. then find any major wiring differences. you may have to cut and splice. when you find the wires you need to spice get those connectors from the donor car.
