this is my outback. i bought it cuz i worked at the dealer at the time and got a steal. i needed something that got good fuel econemy, was reliable, had a resonable cargo area, and was all wheel drive. and it is great.
its bone stock other than some all weather mats from a 06.
DID YOU EVER READ THAT BOOK "OH THE PLACES YOU'LL GO"? thats my cars motto.

i got out with a little help from a tow truck... thanks the only time ive noticed the subies struggle off road is when things get unlevel.
but as long as 4 wheels are on the ground they do good.

LMAO. I did a little off roading myself ....into a creek. Cost me a good one. Bent frame and all. Nothing worse than driving around in a car that smells like hardcore mold! that's a nice subie. Those pics belong on a subaru ad on the tube.

It doesn't work, doesn't clean up after it's self, doesn't even help me when I need it!!

so small update on my 99 outback.. they live right by me and they brought it in the shop today, and much to my dismay, it has been sorely neglected and abused.. the spark plugs are far over due. (i even gave him the plugs and wires when i sold it to him and told him they need to be done) it was very depressing for me to see the car in that poor of shape. concidering i loved that car more than my new one. and i wish every day i hadnt sold it...

Why must bad things happen. So I cruising along when the people in front of me stop short. I manage to stop but the 1991 ford bronco couldn't. He destroyed the back of my outback. Right now it's at the shop. Tomorrow the insurance company decides to fix it or to total it. If that's not enough the insurance company stuck me with a hyndai accent. (which I'm sure is the slowest car in the world.) I asked the body shop to take some pix of the damages so hopfully I can post some soon.

Ouch.. thats no good man. Hope you get a new car outta the deal.. or something. Driving around a car you know has been banged up always hurts. Hope shit gets sorted out for you!

it was too late to get pictures of the damages but here is the the repairs in progress.
there was some damage to the body where the bumper brackets mount but they fixed that.
other than that it looks like all they gotta do is paint and mount.

Interesting story, from good (original car), to bad (selling it), to awesome (new ride), to sad (collision), to good again (repairs and engine), heh...
I gotta say that red one you had looks like it has stories to tell, I love seeing pictures of cars out in their element, subaru's look so good when they're out in snow and mud, I enjoy seeing them out there being used and giving their owners a blast.

--This one makes me laugh a little, it's like it's dipping it's toes in the water! It's too colddddd! haha
Your new Subaru looks good, looks like the repairs are being done well! Hopefully you have as much or more fun in it

So its been 3 long..long months but I got the motor back the reason it had taken so long is they pistons had to be custom made by wisco and the bearing were on back order for like a month.. but I got it back. And 2 days later I turned the key for the first time and.. it starts, mis-fires, and dies. Try it again, it starts revvs to 2k then isles down to 300rpms and then back to 2k while mis firing.. after working on it for 3 days, metric sent a tow truck and we have been working on it together for about 3 days. Found: 3 coolant leaks.1 vacuum leak. But it was running really shitty. It was barely running. Then we discovered that a fuel rail o ring was missing (how the f?) I didn't take the fuel rail off the intake so kinda weird. Put a new one on and low and behold it it runs steady. But we still have a dead cylinder. So we pulled plugs. And they were super foul. Which is weird cuz the only have 2000 miles on them. We did a compression test and it was like this:
cyl#1=113 psi
Cyl#2=94
Cyl#3=112
Cyl#4=109
So we did a leak down test of #2 and it held at 10% which is well within spec. But they said it is normal for new motors to do that when the run time is less than 10 minutes. So we replaced the plugs and now it runs slightly better but now we can test drive it. So we drove it and the way it was acting, they said it seems like injectors. So on Monday we are pulling the injectors and having them tested and cleaned.. that's where we are now...
Here are some pictures.

While looking for your friend's ride (I<3mysubi), I came across your build(s)...
You should pluralize this thread's title to Lord Flashheart's outbacks
:smt005
Nice looking rigs dude! I'm going to pick your brain about motor swaps whenever you get your LSi (sedan) finished.. i've been thinking about a fankenmotor 2.2/2.5 hybrid, or an EG33 swap.... So your experiences will be priceless!
Cheers and good looking OBs!!
lord flashheart
01-07-2011, 08:58 PM
Well I asked metric motors about the 22-25 hybrid swap and he told me you can make power but its better to build a ej251 short block. I would tell u what kinda power they quoted me at but I got in trouble with someone else because I don't have a dyno sheet proving it so I promised to shut up till I have dyno numbers. But stay tuned to my 1995 legacy build cuz its gonna dominate.

PM me those numbers Lord :-)
lord flashheart
01-08-2011, 10:15 AM
Sorry I ment to say long block. And they told me between 200-220chp. How ever this is what they told me. Not proven or backed by a dyno. How ever I've seen a it perform, and regardless of what numbers it shells out I will be satisfied as it ran pretty well.
This is the same motor we were talking about in the 'ej20 or ej25' thread.
The engine is going in my legacy build...
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20486 (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20486) anyone interested in the n/a build follow that thread.
I there are things I like about the eg33 but I don't know much about it so I have my concerns about it..
I like how it sound like a Porsche. I like the power.
However I dont know a ton about them I know they are a ton of wiring. And they are a little tricky.I would love to put a ez30d in mine but I want the shortest down time possible, and plug and play so a H6 isn't my best option. I recommend going the built 2.5 simply because its so simple. Everything hooks up and runs off the same ecu no cutting and mending and it comes with a warranty. If you have another car and can afford the motor, and the down time I say gopher it.
