LGT bumper to Outback bumper

what all do i need to swap from a 97 LGT bumper to Outback bumper, just the skin or do i need beam also?

You could start by reading some of the other threads on this... but get as much of the Outback bumper assembly as you can.

If you can get it fully assembled with the beams, you can just unbolt the 97 GT bumper the same way and slide the frame in, rebolt and voila.

i actually have done this mod...you just need the skin and foglights...bumper beam is the same...you also need paint to match your car...the outback bumper is a little tighter fit then the gt but does fit

the only problem is the bottom of the bumper isn't flush with the gt sideskirts (can't think of their actual name cause i just woke up) and im woking on obtaining the bottom lip off a front gt bumper and modding it on the outback

You can't do that. The lip on the GT bumper is part of the bumper. It's not an add-on. In order to remove it you have to cut the bumper up.

You do not need the bumper beam to do the swap although there is a small difference between the beams.

You can't do that. The lip on the GT bumper is part of the bumper. It's not an add-on. In order to remove it you have to cut the bumper up.

i know that i guess i should have worded it differently...one reason why i didnt take the one off my gt bumper cause i dont have the right tools required..that and the fact that its deformed from a collision

ive been lookin for a cracked gt bumper to cut one off with no prevail so if anybody has that message me

If it's deformed, heat it up and push it back to where it was. It's just plastic.

^ you would likley also need the bumper beam and grille(if you want it to sit flush) to go from and L to a outback.

It's always safest to try to get the support beam. JDMLegacy attempted to swap my 98 GT bumper cover onto her L, and ended up having to get a support beam to make it fit right. Had I know I'd have kept the beam for her.

deformed and cracked...i found a heat gun at the local harbor freight for $8 so ill attempt that but dont think itll help much

plus if its a thermoset instead of thermoplastic heating it wont work. like if you break the alarm remote you cant melt it back together

Boiling water in a big vat and you can heat the bumper evenly. The key is evenly. That's how my old bodyshop guy used to do his stuff on easy rear-ender repairs. If the bumper is cracked, you can always just fiberglass the cracks, then paint for additional strength once the kinks are out of the plastic.

make sure you buy the legacy SUS rear bumper to match your outback front bumper...

I'm doing this once I get my insurance check, however I am going to try and fit a wrx prodrive front lip on the bumper.
