AC oil question

hey, so on this 2000 outback, i have replaced the compressor cause it was obviously bad, and the condenser, cause i put a hole in it...

so ive done this both ways, pull a vacuum on the system to leak test then fill, OR just started pumping freon into the system.


i no longer have accesss to a vacuum pump so...EPA if your listening I WILL NOT DO THIS

but SWIM(Someone Who Isnt Me) was just planning on putting some freon into the system and listening/checking for bleedoff.

my question is, do i have to add any PAG oil?

i mean, ive replaced a singular part before and never added oil, but with compressor and condensor being replace, i dunno...

also, when you pull a vacuum on the system, does the pag oil boil off?


so i guess what im asking is if im replacing the condensor and compressor, do i need to add oil? if so, how much do i need to add? how can you tell how much oil is in the system.... etc?

If you are just using one of those charge kits from an auto place the refrigerant should have the oil in it already. I believe that the R134A larger tanks do too. :smt017

The reason for pulling a vacuum is to 1. check for leaks, 2. to remove moisture and outside air. If the parts were used, the you may not need to add oil. If the parts were new or remaned, then there should have been a tag that tells you if oil needs to be added or not.
