View Full Version : Yakima or Thule Fairings to expensive? Well...

Heres a picture of my homemade one. Total in the end i spent about 40$, (i also already had the plexyglass, so thats going to change the price a bit.....fyi) Im in the process of doing a write up, but heres a photo of it

I want to, but im nervouse too.....the one on the car now was a second try, the first one shatered when i first cut it. :/

I thinking of making one for my car also, but out of my Carbon fiber I have, if there is enough...

To cut it, you could use a air cut off wheel with light presser or a Dremel.... I just used both on some Carbon Fiber and it worked well!

Also.. if you heat the plexiglass a little bit with a heat gun or hair dryer.. it will make it so that it melts, as opposed to shattering. But be careful.. you dont want to melt it completely.. haha.

However.. how DID it shatter? Thats pretty weird.. in most cases it melts before shattering.

I just used a table saw... and the first pice just shattered in my hands. The pice i have was really thin. so i used two pieces and put them together for strength. Ive had it on for a good while and its still doing fine. :D

That might be the reason.... I used to cut lexan sheets at a sign shop I worked at, but it was a crazy built table saw specifically for that kinda stuff... If you dont have a cut off wheel, you can also use a band saw. I have used them working with model cars and other things.

Good call on that.. i have also used a bandsaw to cut it before.. works awesome!
