1) 'Hazard/Flasher' is not on
2) Parking Light is not on
3) Lights come on, blink for 10-15 seconds. Stop for 10. Then repeats.

I just recently changed the head gasket on my 1998 2.5L. In the process I pulled the engine which involved
disconnecting nearly every electrical connector, hose, and anything else that needed to get removed.

The first thing I did was relieve the pressure in the fuel system by (as per the Haynes Repair Manual) disconnecting the
electrical connectors underneath the rear seat cushion. This is when I first noticed the flasher lights coming on and
off. I figured it was normal and just continued, assuming that when all was said and done and all connectors back
together, the blinking would cease.

But after reinstalling the engine and reconnecting every single electrical connector I disconnected including the ones
that first triggered it, it still does it. I turn the key on and off start and stop the engine itself. I turn the actual hazard
flashers on and off. Nothing seems to stop it. Is there a way of "reseting" the car?

The lights will come on and blink for some time and then shut off and then after a while turn back on and continue
blinking and the cycle repeats. This happens whether or not the key is in the ignition. The only thing that will stop it is
disconnecting the battery, which I did.

Sorry for writing a novel, but I thought I would give as much info as possible. I looked through the owners manual,
and the Haynes manual but could not find anything about troubleshooting the system. I have the books so refer to
pages if you have them too and it is of any help.

THANKS!

yea, factory alarm w/o the siren hooked up. there should be a little button under the dash near the hood release if you do not have a remote for it.

+1 on that being your alarm system. Do you not have a remote?

I have the keyless remote that locks and unlocks the doors. There is no alarm button on it. And I am not aware of this car having an alarm or not having an alarm. If it does, it has never gone off. Do all 98 GT's have alarms?

Is there a special remote for just the alarm?

I am gonna go look for the button Brockley mentioned. If I find it, should I press it? Will the alarm go off? If it does, how will I shut it off? I want to steer clear of setting the airbags off or something like that.

I also noticed that the backlight for the radio comes on and off with the flashers...

Thanks for the help so far.

I looked for the 'button'. I did not find it. Only took a quick look around though.

Can you be any more specific?

Thanks

Found the button. Pressed it. Did nothing. Held it down for several seconds. It clicked a little bit and the flashing stopped.

So thanks for all your help.

But...... New problem. The temperature gauge does not register on the dash...

So I will start a new thread. Feel free to check it out and comment. Thanks for all your help!!
