Repeated P0440 Code on Gen 2 EJ22 Evap system. Tips?...

Hey, I have been getting a repeated Evaporative warning over the last few months. It is the P0440 code. And tips or ideas on what to check? I am pretty good at most of this, but the Evap system has thrown me for a little bit of a loop.... Thanks for the help.

P0440 looks like a very general EVAP code. I would check the fuel cap to make sure it tightens correctly and also check its gasket and the top of the filler neck to be sure it is not damaged to cause a leak. Not sure of any other owner checks that could be performed other than inspecting the integrity of the EVAP system itself. At work we use a scan tool to operate the valves and monitor the sensors and can do a smoke test to check for leaks.

Thanks for the tip. I first got the code after I was fueling and slightly over fill the tank. Just was not watching. Spilled a little fuel.... I will check the gas cap and gasket and see what happens. I also noticed it threw the code more often when it was cold out. Lol gosh you know, never dawned on me, we had to weld the right rear sway mount to the car... That is right by the black box..... Thanks again.
