Second question soo far. Put a 5sp trans in my LSi. Tranny came out of an outback with a 2.2 setup.(factory). The tranny i got real lucky with, it had around 70k on it. The clutch was like brand new in it. when i did my swap i put 2.5 in it and bolted it up to that trans. Today while playing in the snow i happend to smell somthin cookin!!! It was my clutch  Now i'm thinkin that maybe that clutch cant hold up to the torque that the 2.5 puts out. Does anyone know if there is a difference in the clutches on a 2.2 trans and a 2.5 trans?

Try this http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/cp_par ... &year=1996 (http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/cp_partlistbymod.php?model=Legacy&subcat=Clutch&year=1996)

I think the main difference is diameter of the clutch disc. That would explain the slipping the pressure plate may be different also.

^ Because you're supposed to match the clutch to the engine, not the tranny, right?

^ no, you generally have to match the clutch to the tranny (cause in some cases it wont work at all if you dont). but you want to match the clutches capacity to your engine.
the diff between the 2.2 and 2.5 clutch is the OD of the disk. so they are essentially interchangeable. i have a 2.5 clutch in my 2.2 engine 2.2 trans set up. and i will soon have a 2.5 cluch in my 3.3 engine 2.2 trans set up.
more issues come into play when you start using trannys from turbo subarus because the function differently

So I would think the 2.2 pressure plate dosen't have enough clamping force for the 2.5 engine when you play hard!
The larger disc would just be good insurance.
What issues with turbo trans other then gearing?

The fly-wheel came off the 2.2 also. so the sizing fits. But my exact thought was there isn't enough pressure for the torque being put out, which was mentioned. so my assumption was rite i suppose. The clutch doesn't seem to slip while driving hard on pavement, but in the snow it surely does....Idk guys it just doesn't seem to make sense why it would slip in snow but not on pavement. Maybe is the all wheel drive kicking in?

^ AWD doesnt kick in with a manual transmission, its working all the time.
Beating around in the snow can be extremly hard on a clutch, i will show you what i did to mine when i get home.
the 2.2 flywheel is fine and interchangeable (in fact it is also lighter than a stock 2.5 one), you would just want to get it resurfaced so the face is good for accepting a slightly larger disk.
The difference between the turbo cars and the NA cars is the design of the pressure plate/tranny. because the trannys work differently in how they apply pressure to the pressure plate making them non interchangeable (you will see the difference referred to as Push type and Pull type). so you would still need to buy a clutch kit to match your tranny.

Are you being serious?

Didn't know they where pull type like the camaros from the late 90's good to know I want to put a six speed in my Legacy just waiting on the 5spd or rear diff to granade

You're probably just spinning your tires in the snow.
To tell if your clutch is slipping, drive up to like 40 mph, put it in 5th gear, and stomp on the accelerator. The rpms should rise very slowly. If they shoot up then your clutch is slipping.

It definately doesn't smell like rubber burning lol. It sounds rediculous but that's the case. i'll take that advice tho.

Yeah I doubt you're burning rubber in the snow too. More likely you're just burning snow/salt on your exhaust, happens all the time when playing in the snow :)
