Hey guys, a little help on the subject would be great. I'm fine at mechanical fixes and radios etc, but haven't ever put in a remote start/keyless entry system. My girlfriend just bought me a Scytek Astra 1000 RS (for automatic) and would prefer to install it myself if it should be easy enough. Features are remote start, keyless entry, trunk release, turbo timer (not turbo yet but still want the feature), flash parking lights when enabled etc. No alarm.

I'm going to ask the local install shops how much for them to do it, but I'd like to save some cash and could probably do just as good a job if I know exactly what to connect. I can solder and have a multimeter, but some guidance would be very helpful. It's been a long time since I've used the multimeter. I've tried searching on nasioc, and some here but to be honest I don't really like the search setup here.

Car is a 97 Legacy GT auto, without the stock keyless entry system. As far as alarm, I dunno it has a red led on the steering column but that's as far as I know.

Thanks for any help.
Anybody have direct experience with installing this (or similar system) on a BD?

You should start with this then you'll need a wire diagram for your year and model car. This will help with the remote start install It will save a lot of guess work.

Thanks. I saw that before, but I guess I did'nt really read through it since they were talking about the factory keyless entry. NOW I see the pin diagrams! LOL it's my own fault. By the way, talking to Best Buy and another local place, it would cost roughly $200. Needless to say, I think I'll be doing this myself. The more I read the instructions over and over the more I understand.

Did your's have remote start, or a keyless entry/alarm or all the above?

Where do you connect the wires for the remote start? The diagram in the book they gave me shows a relay for some of the wires (in steering column at ignition or in kick panel?), and some wires to connect to ignition wires. How do I connect extra wires to a relay? I've never messed with relays before. How do I tell the difference between ignition 1 and 2 and such?

I guess just some guidance on the starting system is what I need, the rest shouldn't be bad especially with the information in the other thread. Thanks for the help!

No remote start I will be adding one to it. Shouldn't be that hard to install.
