Ok so i posted up a topic about a weird noise that i heard a week back and after seeing what some of u said, i decided to take it and get a third opinion after 2 had said it was a wheel bearing and that id be fine driving until i got it replaced. So i went to the third place and once their, they are pretty positive that its a CV joint... Now here's my question.. if the other 2 garages we wrong, and i've been driving on a messed up cv joint for a couple days, how much, if any damage does that cause? i was told to get the have the axel replaced if it was the cv joint, but does that fix everything? Im new to this type of stuff and wasnt sure, but something just didnt seem right with the explinations from the first 2 garages... Its scheduled to go into the shop tomorrow at Williamsport Auto which only works on subies...so like i said, is there anything else i could have caused damage too? (im praying like no other that there isnt...) :(

just replace the half shaft...you get a rebuilt shaft and new boots for about the same as just 'fixing' the one boot.

I reccomend getting the part through http://www.cvaxles.com/ (~55 bucks).

yeah i dont know why they thought it was the wheel bearings either, thats what i thought was fishy about it. I wanted to fix it myself but i dont have some of the tools or the time to get to it. Its finals week here and plus my parents are the ones getting it fixed. So i guess aslong as im not paying for it, they can fix it. I mean if i did scew something up then its taken car of, also they guy said that if he was going to replace the axcel, it would only 50 bucks and would be an hour at the most, which doesnt sound too bad..... thanx for the input and thanks for the site fibuz, if i have any other prob. then i definetly know where to look... hopefully thought this is a one and done deal. :)

you usually can't go wrong by taking your car to linda (williamsport auto owner) she's fair and most of her mechanics know what they're doing...

yeah her and her mechanics def. know what they are doing, it took him 20 mins to change the left axel and it was as good as new. Also the price was great. Ill definetly be taking all my subaru business there from now on.
