after about 5 minutes she was grinning and asking how to rev match.

My girl knows how to drive stick, I let her drive my truck since she hadn't driven in like 4 months (she's an out of state student with no car here). Well, she loved the sound my 2.25" glasspack exhaust made. She revved that sucker up to like 4,800 (redline is around 5,200). Scared the bejesus out of me. The only other person I let drive my truck was my best friend. I let him take it over some curbs and parking stops in his work's parking lot. No one has driven my subie though. :twisted:

Haha the most recent girlfriend just asked me yesterday if she could drive my car. I think I'll let this one probably, she takes care of her car so i cant see mine being a problem, plus her car is probably faster and more powerful than mine(04 Range Rover).

A friend of mine actually taught my girlfriend to drive stick. Then, once she had it down in his car, I let her drive the SS. A scary moment, but she did well.

She tried to drive the Forester, and she had the idea, but I really was uncomfortable with the 4000 RPM and slipping the clutch to get moving.

I need to teach her again. She enjoyed it though, and I really would like her to know and understand how to drive a manual.

If you're going to teach stick, teach about the friction point and getting the car moving without any gas. That's the key to knowing how to get a good start.

When teaching some one to drive stick. Especially with 4wd. Start in grass or gavel. It will really save the clutch and tranny alot of trouble

yep, that's what I did. I gave her a technical background to help her understand what she's doing with that third pedal.

awesome job wiscon mark, I still have yet to let anyone else drive my car now that it is manual. My GF started to learn in her dad's car recently and I tried to give her some tips.

"start out using no gas so you can just find out where the clutch engages, then it will be easier to start."

Ah the blondes always at the top of their game, mine told me that they got rid of her land rover for a range rover because theyre a different company and it wouldnt get any problems now. Wow girls know there cars haha, its a good thing blondes are hot.

It sounds like the Licence laws must be a bit different over there to over here! It sounds like you can pass your test in any car and then drive any transmission, is that right? Over here in the UK, if you pass your test in an auto then you may only drive an auto. If you pass in a manual then you can use either. To be honest, most cars here are manuals, our Legacy which we pick up on Monday shall be our first auto so fingers crossed!

I'm switching to an auto because of a couple of reasons. Firstly, we were thinking of buying a newer car, and a bigger one too. My Impreza is getting on a bit (1993 model), and this Legacy came up and happened to be an auto. Also, I'm a truck driver, and I have quite enough changing gears (12 gears in our trucks) during the day. A test drive sealed it, the 2.5 engine has a good amount of shove and the auto shift seems a lot smoother than I expected.

This I agree with 100%. If I'm going to drive just to get somewhere, I'll take an auto. But if I want to drive for fun, give me a stickshift and nothing else. Fancy-schmancy paddle/"sport"shifting doesn't cut it.

yeah, I agree with the 'just getting there' sentiment, I have my bike for fun and track days, but I just can't risk seriously breaking the speed limit and losing my licence because of my job, and the UK has a phenomenal amount of speed cameras.
