View Full Version : AC buttons
Hi guys, Pretty new to the legacy scene, but family has had a few, so i know some stuff about them
Anyway, i got myself a 1995 legacy couple of weeks ago, couple of days ago when driving home from work in the night i realized the buttons that you change the airflow with didnt light up, however, the small indication lights right under them lights up.
(If anyone dont know what i am talking about, here's a pic:

Pic lent from GT Wagon here on Sl-i, best pic i could find
It's those buttons, where, as said, you change how the air flows out of your AC system. So i just wondered if those should be illuminated or not? Because it's a damn hard guessing game when trying to change them in the dark. lol.

No, not really. It's pretty much straight forward. Those posts are just for you to know what bulb sizes to get. Be carefull, as the ones for the HVAC are not all the same length.

It is a pretty easy fix. Those lights burn out often and quickly.

so the little guys with the arrows should be lit up when you have your headlights on?

I always thought just the little indication lights were the only ones to light up with your selected choice like in the picture above.

yeap the picture lights up in my 97
TBH those numbers for the bulbs just confuses me... If someone could point me to the correct lamps to buy with a couple of links it would be appreciated :D
Also, should the hazard light also be lit up when having your headlights on? Because that one's dark aswell, until i press it, then it blinks...

I'm not sure about what bulbs to buy, I did this last year sometime(2008). I just took it apart, got the bulbs out, went to the nearest radioshack and compared the burned out bulb to the new ones they had and found the right one.
Yes the hazard light DOES light up! I hadn't seen mine in years and completely forgot it once lit up. That vent panel just comes off by unscrewing the cupholder (2 screws) and then the panel pops off with the hazard light screwed into the back of it.
Forgotten about this... lol
Will probably try and get it apart tomorrow and check what bulbs there is. I have the description for how to remove everything, but i dont get how to remove the wire for the heat/cold selector?

Radio Shack bulb# : 7219 comes 2 in a pack. Check that PDF, it shows how to make an "extension" for the longer bulb if you don't want to go to the stealership (altho they're not that expensive there either)
And the clip for the switch is pretty easy. If i remember correctly, you remove the unit, flip it over and you'll see a little c-clip wedging the wire in there. Pull that out and you should be able to maneuver the cable's head out of the holder.
Ordered these bulbs from a subaru dealer today... Dont have the patience to sit and wire them, so that's why, also, i am living in sweden.
Costed me a small fortune tho, they were around $8.5 from subaru... Needed clips for the grill aswell, so ordered them aswell..

^ what was the total cost? And 8.50 each!?!
Yes. Brand specific parts is expensive as fuck here in Sweden, for the 6 clips to the grill it's about $41...
Same deal when i got interior lights for my old volvo i sold, $6.5 for each bulb, needed 6 <_<

How many bulbs did you need in total for this? Maybe Sweden charges a tax on importing OEM parts or something, but that is quite expensive. The grill clips I purchased at my local Subaru dealership only costed me a total of $5 for like 5 clips haha

^really? Damn.. cause i know at my stealership it wouldnt be THAT cheap.. but online you could get em for cheap. 1stsubaruparts.com or something.
Essy, that's what i am thinking too, that it becomes so damn expensive because they import parts...?
And to my surprize Subaru dont have parts for the steeering servo pump, i needed a gasket, but the only thing they had was the complete unit, so im gonna make my own gasket instead. I aint sending $187 just because it leaks some oil.
Picked up my stuff today, ended up costing me a total of $64,75 for the grill clips (6pc) and the 3 bulbs for the HVAC panel.
I was confused at first though, as i wanted a bulb for the hazard light, but didnt get one, but as i looked on the receipt it said that the whole button was needed to buy, for another $55, No thanks <_<
But now it all lights up, and my grill is put! Reeally nice.
