Soooo... I'm tearing down an EJ20G, and someone on NASIOC was kind enough to point out to me that EJ20G block + 79mm crank + stock EJ2xx rods (xx meaning 55, 57, 05, 07, 0G, etc, basically the 2.0's and 2.5 use the same rod length) + custom pistons = Stroker Motor.
So, I'm trying to remember which Subaru motors came with 79mm cranks, and searching forums and the internet is, as always, not helpful. :p Then, I remembered that the EJ20G is a phase 1 engine with the thrust bearing at the end of the block, and the EJ255/EJ257 is Phase 2, with the thrust bearing in the middle somewhere... On a different bearing. So, why not put an EJ25D crank in? Except, I cannot remember if the EJ25D crank is 79mm or not. All I can remember is that the EJ25D and EJ251/EJ252 are different... Somewhere in there (other than the thrust bearing, of course).
So, which 2.5 motors had 79mm cranks?
I'm so glad I'm doing a slow build on this, it means I can sit back and relax instead of freaking out at 1 am over small things. Eh, 12:30, almost, but I was up now anyway. :p I'll scope out forums and keep an eye out for a cheap crank or motor someone's parting out (once I get an answer)... And now I know how people who build motors end up accumulating large quantities of spare engine parts.
