brake pedal grinding noise !!!

Alright about 2-3 months ago i started hearing a clicking sound whenever i turned left (drivers side). i figured it still alright since it only did it when hard turning.

So about a week ago we got some snow , and my dumb self decided to go do some donuts on a parking lot and i managed to do about two spins on some ice but then went in the lot too far and got stuck in the snow. about 10 inches of it. :smt021

i tried to move it out accelerating it but it wasnt' going anywhere, so i had to shovel snow out from the underside of the car. i managed to get the car out, about an hour later.

while driving home i saw that the abs light was on, which had never turned on. After getting home 10 minutes later it disappeared and hasn't come on again.

*the next day while driving i was starting from first gear to about 3k (rpm) and had to suddenly stop, and when i pressed on the brakes it started to make a loud grinding noise that i could feel on the pedal and the car slid until the brakes engaged..

anyone know what could be wrong??? (maybe i broke something for trying to get out of the snow?) (axle?)

in the last 2 weeks its only done it a total of 3 random times, i've noticed its only done it while stopping from 1st gear.

otherwise the brakes works well and tranny feels good?

im just afraid that it won't happen to me while im on the highway at higher speeds lol

can you feel any feedback in the pedal? also, has there been any ice or snow on the ground when you've heard the noise?
ABS can make a grinding noise/feel when its engaging and trying to stop the car on a slick surface

i suspect you've damaged one of the wires going to the ABS sensor in one of the hubs.

i just swapped over a set of rear struts in my LGT and have dislodged a dodgy repair of an ABS sensor. i have a constant ABS light, but it does chatter the ABS (that grinding noise, sounds like dererererererere) when you first start the car with your foot on the brake.

new sensor will fix the problem for me.

check the cables leading to the sensors on your hubs for any signs of damage/ pinching, etc

YES... i feel it in the pedal.. feels really bad, actually there has been slushy (slippery) snow on the road when it has happened.

i'll check and see if i have a damaged cable. do they lead to the front or back hubs?

how bad is really bad? because under icy or slushy conditions when you hit the brakes hard that grinding noise is actually your ABS working to stop the car without locking up the tires. it definitely doesn't feel pleasant but thats been my experience on the ice, so i would think that that is normal. I'm not sure how to explain the ABS light on for the drive home though, definitely still check the wires for damage though.

If you damage a wheel sensor the ABS light will be on almost all the time but not always all the time. BTW, the clicking noise you were hearing was your axle, it needs replaced. Its possible while digging yourself out of the snow you clipped a sensor line with a shovel or whatever. They are easy to spot, the wires hang down in the wheel wells and screw into the back of the hub. They are as thick as brake lines and can easily be confused as a brake line if you aren't paying attention.

alright guys, im thinking it was the abs trying to work, like mrpyb said.
im certain of this because there was ice on the road when it occured.

im going to check for damaged hoses this weekend, because its too cold outside right now lol.

I suspect the ABS light was on because you were stuck in the snow and spinning the tires. I would say that because the front and rear differentials are open, chances are that on the front or rear, one wheel had more traction than the other and so it didn't spin or spun slower than the other side. If the ABS system sees a large speed differential on any 1 wheel for too long, it assumes the speed sensor is reading wrong and sets a code, turning on the light. But because it wasn't a constant problem, the light eventually went off.
