View Full Version : 2nd Generation Wagon (BG/BK) b5a4's 98' Subaru Outback
Well here she is... My 98' Subaru Legacy Outback. She has around 180,000 miles on here but has just had the timing belt / heads worked on. She is a 5spd and for a car that is in the salt belt is in great shape. I have had her for only a day so dont mind the dirty pics was on way to work. Better pics to come

two tone suits those cars much better than single color :]
Well, had an oh shit moment this past week. On the way back to NY from PA after Easter decided that since it was nice out I'd go the back way through Sinnemahoning state park on back roads. Well about an hour looking at the temperature I saw it was running a little hot, but wasn't too concerned. Then I stopped on a road to take some pictures and then saw coolant pouring out over the front bumper and down under the car. I saw the the radiator hose and sprung a leak and spewed all the coolant everywhere.

Well lucky me I was in the middle of nowhere on a dirt road on the mountain and without cell service so I turned off the car and coasted 4 miles down the mountain road and then started the car and drove few more miles before I had to pull over and keep the car from overheating. Luckily less than a mile away I found a house and he was able to help me by ghetto rigging a radiatior hose off of an old Ford Ranger and topping off the coolant. So instead of a 3 hour trip it ended up being about 5 hours but luckily I was able to find someone to give me a hand. Other than that the Outback has been running without a hickup

Keep an eye on that leak, the head gasket problems on these cars like to disguise themselves as leaking radiator hoses. Thats what happened to me, even had a mechanic tell me it was just a loose hose when the head gaskets went out on my car.

Yeah the head gaskets were just done before I got the car and when I picked up the hood to look at why it was leaking, the coolant was shooting out of the radiator hose where the hose got a hole in it so it was def the radiator hose, but my first was thought was that it was the head gaskets too.
Minor update, I painted the stock rims black and have been driving the tar out of it. Up to 215k but both the front wheel bearings are really starting to make noise so once I'm home ill be replacing them.

Hey I noticed you wanted GT bumpers on your car, if you're on here again check out my car to see if you'd like it or not since we have the same car essentially haha

About 5 months back, my outback had the radiator hose pop off on the highway and i lost almost all my coolant and now i have some blown hg's.....hopefully you lost only a little coolant and your car will be okay.
