if it has the seat mounted airbags, which it most likely does, then no it will not, unless you take out the airbag and sensors, am i am not sure that that will work being able to put the forester seats in even w/o airbags.

But wrx seats have seat mounted airbags too... Why would the airbags make it incompatible..

How to?
1.Unbolt from Forester, bolt into legacy.
2.Ignore airbag connectors.
3.done
4."enjoy" head rubbing the roof if you're taller. (they sit higher)
I'm 5'11 and I tried forester seats in mine, but ended up putting Impreza seats in, more side bolstering and not as high. My head didn't touch the roof but my 6'3 friend's did, even though he was fine with the stock and Impreza seats.

Are there any figment issues with the brackets from the forester seats into the legacy chassis?

You are completely wrong. Physically/mechanically the seats will drop right in. The side airbags simply add weight - DO NOT ATTEMPT to plug these into your factory SRS system. The 97 Legacy only has front SRS sensors, you do NOT want your side airbags to inflate during a head on collision.

^Agreed, the airbags have nothing to do with the fitment of the seat. Just let the connector dangle.
